I'm quite impressed by the exotic buildings in this early photograph.

Notice the building at middle-left with the tall turrets (the turrets are somewhat hard to see).
Also intriguing is the building at lower-right with the prominent skylight and tower.
In the upper portion of the photograph there is a building that resembles a high school (with a 'quasi' dome).
Regrettably, I am unable to identify any of these early Hollywood buildings. :(

The turreted building at middle-left is the Hollywood Hotel. Gone, of course. But I was amazed to find that 107 years later, at least one of the buildings in your picture still exists, and is in use (and even iconized) by the American Society of Cinematographers. Not all houses in SoCal have rain gutters. The house I grew up in (which btw, my parents still live in) doesn't have rain gutters. The apartment building I live in, though, does.

Oh no, e-r...the DMV is a nightmare from coast to coast, especially the power-tripping cretins behind the counters. I know it's perhaps uncool to wish it on anyone these days, but never have I been less sad to see people lose their jobs as more of the processes are done by the consumer online....

I just checked the address. The building at 3500 Hope Street (and it's neighbor) is still there!

SEIBU only lasted from 1962 to 1964. From 1964 to 1986 it operated as an Ohrbach's department store.

oh Ohrbach's my grandmother use to take me to the kids dept when i was younger,and the entrance on fairfax i totally forgot about that,i do remember there being a pond on the roof deck,also the one thing that sticks out in my mind is the spiral drive way! granny had full range of the store and got a big discount for being friends with the former owners off the Bullocks/I Magnin system.After shopping we would go get gas at a mid century 76 that was right behind may co and then head for the tea room at bullocks(which was still open in the late 80s early 90s).

It is the same building, e-r. The building at left in your pics is still there (3440 S. Hope). The Harbor Freeway is right across Hope from these buildings.

it was a rare treat when that once a month day came along,i forgot to mention right next to may-co was an ortho store,it had the same curved copper awnings as the may-co building and was one story,we bought all of our mattreses there.i came across some pics that i took of it when i was little with my argoflex but im in dallas now,when i get back to la i will post.its funny that things can change so much in a 15-20 year span.
