Then I noticed the house doesn't have any gutters. Is this normal in Southern California? |
Hollywood Boulevard and Orange Drive in 1905.
http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/7...orangedriv.jpg found tonight on ebay I'm quite impressed by the exotic buildings in this early photograph. Notice the building at middle-left with the tall turrets (the turrets are somewhat hard to see). Also intriguing is the building at lower-right with the prominent skylight and tower. In the upper portion of the photograph there is a building that resembles a high school (with a 'quasi' dome). Regrettably, I am unable to identify any of these early Hollywood buildings. :( ___ |
Right, the building with the dome is Hollywood Union High School.

The comedy club called The Ice House is the building just north of there. Its name comes from the fact that, well, it used to be an ice house. |
When was the last time you went swimming when you bought a car?

:previous: ONLY in L.A. :).....would you find a swimming pool at a car dealership.
____ It looks as if the DMV has always been hell on earth. below: A loooong line in 1940. http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/1412/dmv1940.jpg http://digitallibrary.usc.edu/search...=1329441613396 At first I thought this was the same building in both photos...but count the windows to the left of the fire escape. ___ below: A loooong line in 1951. The address is 3500 Hope Street. http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/459...est1951usc.jpg http://digitallibrary.usc.edu/search...=1329441613396 So what's that neighboring building to the left? ___ |
:previous:
Oh no, e-r...the DMV is a nightmare from coast to coast, especially the power-tripping cretins behind the counters. I know it's perhaps uncool to wish it on anyone these days, but never have I been less sad to see people lose their jobs as more of the processes are done by the consumer online.... |

I just checked the address. The building at 3500 Hope Street (and it's neighbor) is still there! http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/4795/dmvhope1.jpg google street view below: A glimpse at the neighbor (the lattice-like details that appear at the corners of the building are gone). http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/4610/dmvhope1a.jpg google street view below: They both barely survived the construction of the Harbor Freeway. http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/7749/dmvh2.jpg google street view The neighbor is labeled 'East Library Building'....perhaps it's a storage facility. |

It is the same building, e-r. The building at left in your pics is still there (3440 S. Hope). The Harbor Freeway is right across Hope from these buildings. |
:previous: OK...great...I didn't think to check the side street. Thanks G_W. (I added pics to my post above while you were posting this)

A simple house at 4932 Cimarron Street. I found a couple photos of the interior as well.
