The city's RFP for the transit center land specified that the developer must build a pedestrian passage from the corner of Central & Camelback to the light rail station. I don't see that in these images.

dtnphx May 24, 2017 9:43 PM

It makes me wonder about the Omni apartments they were supposed to build on both sides of Central just south of the Camelback intersection. Now that they demolished the west side and they pulled out. Perhaps there's a connection with the ownership at the corner and could create the potential of a bridge of some sort over the light rail to the property. Maybe.

Not much content in the article beyond the vague potential for highnrise condos in the country club parking lot at 7th St and Thomas. Interesting...

Text from the above article:

The Phoenix Country Club is considering development plans for its parking lot areas at Thomas Road and Seventh Street.

The plans — which still are preliminary and under consideration — would bring a high-rise condo development to the club’s lots.

Condos could come one of Arizona's top country clubs.

ZURIJETA

That is according to multiple real estate and business officials familiar with discussions of the plans.

Country club memberships would be part of the condo purchases, according to those same officials.

Officials at the Phoenix Country Club did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

The Phoenix Country Club was founded in 1899. It has been at its current central Phoenix location since 1921.

It is one of the most prominent country clubs in the Southwest.

A number of new apartment and condo developments have been built, are under construction or a planned in midtown and downtown Phoenix.

Golf clubs and courses are also battling demographic and secular changes that have challenged their membership roles.

Reading between the lines I wonder if the club is sustaining itself.

PHXFlyer11 May 25, 2017 4:23 AM

That'd be killer though to see a high-rise 20+ stories on the corner of 7th and Thomas with restaurants on the ground level facing the street.

In the "comments from the public, not for committee discussion" part of this month's Encanto VPC meeting, somebody gave a heads up that this was coming. An interesting aspect of this is that the golf course itself is a County island, but the corner where this is proposed is within the City limits.

Referring to the SWC of 7th Ave and Osborn, this was just posted to nextdoor.com under the subject line "Sprouts to occupy old Basha's space":

Just spoke to Greg Laing of Phoenix Commercial Advisors and he confirmed that Sprouts had signed. When I asked about the projected opening, he indicated with demo and other projected upgrades that they were contemplating a possible opening at the end of 2018.

Now if Phoenix would just do away with the suicide lanes on the sevens I could easily hit that store on the way home from the office.

I ran across this in another thread:

Dream Hotel Group also signed letters of intent to open hotels in the following markets: Austin, Phoenix, Orlando, Monterey and Long Island City, as well as the United Kingdom, Central America and Vietnam.

Has anyone heard anything about this brand entering the Phoenix market?

I can't see the article...and this is just speculation...but I wonder if this has anything to do with Block 23 and the 400' tower crane?

biggus diggus May 30, 2017 8:24 PM

It's not the lender from Cleveland?

That was my 1st guess, but I wanted to bring a little wishful thinking to Block 23. :D

Where would a new garage be built in that general area? I don't think the lot next to Hanny's is big enough, correct?

PHXflyer May 30, 2017 8:39 PM

The deal is for Quicken employees parking at the garage across from Chase Field on 5th and Washington. 1100 spaces at $50/month per space for a 10 year deal.

Yep! And will also offer Metro Light rail passes to its employees. Very smart use of existing parking space instead of building another damn parking garage. Plus Quicken is based out of Detroit, not Cleveland ;)

FYI - For all these articles on PBJ, there's a quick easy way to bypass paywall. On blocked page, right-click on it and select "View Page Source" (this is on Chrome). Within all the source code, do a Find on the following phrase "content__". Just toggle through the searches and you will be able to read all the text. Messy process but sure beats $100/year.
