Thanks to everyone who helped to identify the car at First and Figueroa. I'm still curious about Barbara Ann's "Double Flavor Bread".

Looks like the artist took some liberties.
http://jpg2.lapl.org/pics22/00045623.jpgLAPL John Mauer pointing to a map in the courtroom on April 13, 1938. http://jpg3.lapl.org/pics05/00022233.jpgLAPL Scene of the Raymond car bombing. "This photo was taken on the morning of January 14, shortly after Harry Raymond stepped on the starter of his car and set off the planted bomb that blew out the sides of his garage and sent hundreds of pieces of metal tearing into his body." This excerpt taken from the caption that appeared with this photo in the L.A. Herald Examiner. http://jpg2.lapl.org/pics22/00045671.jpgLAPL Here is the "hideout" house from which a group of mystery men assertively spied on Raymond's home from last September until three days after the bombing. Neighbors identified Kynette and some of his officers as the men who occupied the house. From the window indicated by an arrow a clear view of the Raymond home could be had. Photo date: January 20, 1938. http://jpg3.lapl.org/pics17/00028074.jpgLAPL Closeup view of the damage to Harry Raymond's auto, caused by the bombing. Anybody able to identify the car? |
This is dated 1948, but no location.
It looks to me like the building on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Doheny. http://hollywoodphotographs.com/photos/lrg/SR-031.jpgB.Torrence@H.P. ____________________ Update: GW has identified this location as Santa Monica Blvd. and San Vicente. Val's Coffee Shop is on the NE corner of SMB. |
In keeping with the Hollywood Hotel and Highland Avenue color photos posted recently, I don't find that these have been previously seen on NLA.

Sorry guys, sometimes I forget that good old Google can do the trick. Lol. Apparently the house was the home of Dosan Ahn Chang Ho and family, "an activist and prominent leader of the Korean resistance movements (1905-1945) as well as a leader in the Korean-American community. Numerous memorials have been built in his honor, including statues in Dosan Memorial Park in Seoul and Riverside, California. In Los Angeles, there is Dosan Ahn Chang Ho Post Office in Koreatown and Dosan Ahn Chang Ho Square, at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Van Buren Place." -LAPL
A picture of Dosan Ahn Chang Ho standing on the front porch of the home in question, whose address was apparently 106 N. Figueroa: http://jpg1.lapl.org/pics07/00003243.jpgLAPL |
