Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question but how much more complicated is it to build a curved building vs. one with a box/square mat system? Buildings like this one or 1001 s. state seem to take so much more time to complete each floor.

Oooh i like the curves. this is gonna be really good filler.
nvm i think it's just gonna be good in general. |
^ Ugh no. This is just another flashy P/H design, and I'm sure the cladding will be the cheapest Chinese system they could find on Alibaba. Basically the second (third?) coming of One Museum Park.
I'm not against curved designs in principle, but this is far from elegant. Whoever lives in this building will end up with crazy, inefficient floorplans and get no architectural value in return. |
^this coming from someone who sings the praises of RAMSA at every opportunity. maybe it will turn out bad? not as bad as your fav neighbor tho.

Wow that first shot is amazing. it looks like an art installation.
Uh oh... Saran Wrap, off brand. |
They finally got a pretty steady rotation on this. As of late it seems they are getting a floor every 6-7 days. If I remember correctly 1001 s. State started raising a floor a week after the 15th or so floor. Curved buildings still have me confused with the rising forms, they dont have them. If anyone can pull up some lake point tower construction photos i'd love to see what process they used.

I know its a random question on the wrong thread, but if you take a view of the oxblue page does Loews always have that tent up on their lounge deck? Or is it up for some special event, such as a fundraiser or wedding? I dont remember it being there last summer. Is it permanent for the season or just for an event? Seems like a pretty sweet place to throw a party.

On the positive side, it's nice to see this building have apartments/balconies in the podium that fronts Illinois. I feel like that should be a mandatory design feature for any building that has a parking podium.
On the negative side, that curtain wall is less than pleasing. |
