Now that Charlotte's extension is complete I can't wait until the Durham-Orange light rail line and the Raleigh-Durham commuter lines are officially under construction. Latest estimate is September 2019 groundbreaking for Durham-Orange.

I'd like to have something approaching a complete list of the Canadian openings before I start slotting them in after the fact. Is anyone able to do that?
If not, I'll put in whatever people do ID one at a time, with an asterisk that there could be some missing. But it'd be nice to know. |

I don't want to remove them, but if you'd care to go back through the thread and give me a year-of-opening for the others, I would add that info to the front-page list.

Cool. Great. Thanks. That info has now been added to the main post on the front page. |
Groundbreaking for the REM project in Montreal is tomorrow.

I'll add it Thursday or shortly thereafter.
Quick question: Just to be diligent, are we sure/agreed that REM should be categorized as heavy metrorail and not commuter rail? It's more or less equivalent equipment as Vancouver Skytrain, right? |

Super exciting about Montreal. Looking forward to seeing construction pics ;)
Vancouver will be adding 2 projects within a year. Full funding is now in place for both, detailed design is underway. The first (and most important) is a 6km extension of the Millennium Skytrain Line (1 KM elevated, 5 KM subway). The second is a 10km long LRT project in Surrey. |

It’s basically the Skytrain/Copenhagen Metro stretching into the suburbs. |
It's service pattern is closer to that of London's cross rail, High frequency in the core, lower frequencies in the burbs.
If Honolulu counts though, R.E.M. probably should as well. Also, does utility relocation count as construction? If so there are 2 LRT projects in Toronto that can be added. In other news, the Finch West LRT announced its RFP winning bidder today, full construction should start in the next few months. Utility relocations have been underway for about a year already. |
