I was curious what Hyde Park's oldest building is. I came across the database listing all the pre-1940s building in Chicago, including Hyde Park:
https://webapps.cityofchicago.org/la...earch/home.htm (Choose Hyde Park for the neighborhood.) As you may know, the oldest house in Hyde Park is 5317 S. Dorchester. (I guess that's also the oldest building in HP?) : http://www.hydeparkhistory.org/2015/11/30/11984/ |

I noticed this morning that all of the curtainwall connector clips are installed on the south facing slab edges at Solstice up to the floors with current pours. Hopefully that means we will be seeing some sloped facade panels very soon.

The north and southeast sides of Jackson Park are already beautifully enclosed with buildings, but I'm excited to see the west side bulk up a bit with the Obama Library and apartment proposal at 63rd/Blackstone. Would be interesting to see this proposal on Stony Island come back to life, since so many others around Hyde Park have recently: https://cdn0.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/sAw...f52fa2_o.0.png |
^You're reaching waaay back in time to a vision project, but we'll see if the presidential center spurs development.

Would be great to see some midrise buildings on the north end of 61st to give it a bit of depth looking south. As for the hotel, the design is great, but they could save the school and site it directly south of it, creating a kind of mini-Beekman for Hyde Park: https://gotham-magazine.com/get/file...-Beekman-1.jpg Source: Gotham Magazine |
The Beekman is so dope.
|
where is that at?

I really like the new hotel's design, but hate the fact they are demolishing the Day School. I'll echo the previous comments on why can't they keep and integrate the existing buildings on the site with the tower behind? There's no scarcity of land here. Great to see confirmation on the Rubenstein re-design. |

Huh, apparently someone thought it was a good idea to clone 900 N Michigan

^Looks like they may have mixed some 1960s Soviet in the Petri dish and botched the cloning. So bad. (Sorry for o/t)

Yeah that tower is pretty much a disaster from beginning to end.

Any chance that UC trama center will help reduce the murder rate? Not the number of shootings, but the number of deaths?
|
Quote:
I have heard, on a podcast or something, that one of the reasons our murder rate is lower than in 80's and 90's has mostly to do with the abilities and equipment that paramedics have with them when they respond. I think the topic was specifically about cutting funds for fire paramedics, so they did not get into the role the hospitals play. Probably a large one as well. So basically, maybe. |
For a top notch center like U of C to have L1Trauma only makes sense.
Not only does the University benefit from applying evidence based approaches to real life cases in high volume, but of course it gives the community access to the best and the brightest. It's a win win, and I really hope it saves lives. |
