My aunt drove me down this street when I was about 9 years old....the scale is quite daunting for a child.

I generally follow the Xiuhpohualli calendar ...fixed (365 days) Pre-Columbian (Aztec) ...its very reliable and never lets you down.

The remains of the 5th Ave Theatre can be seen in this 2012 GSV. The theatre still stands today but has been painted over to almost completely hide the lettering

Am I the only one who can't view any images hosted at googleusercontent.com in Firefox on my mac? I have to open every post by tovangar2 in chrome to view images. None of the image links have a file extension (.jpg,.png, .gif,. bmp, etc), so the images don't show up because Firefox doesn't find them)

Image issues aside, I thought I'd share a dashcam video I made of Christmas Tree lane two years ago.

They don't show up in Firefox for Windows either. I have the same problem with GW's recent images too. It's looks like Firefox is now planning to support .webp images (Google's own file format which is being used by googleusercontent.com), but I can't find a date when this will happen.

Thanks for that info HossC. I'll just keep chrome open on the side for now until Mozilla adds support for .webp.

I remember my father driving us to see this street as a child. It was quite special back in the sixties. Thank you, Lomara, for posting it.

I, too, am having trouble with images not showing up. I'm on a Mac using Safari.

My IE 11 on Windows 7 doesn't show them either.

I haven't been to LA yet, but I am so intrigued by the history of the city. Especially Bunker Hill. These great pics, to me, show the fascinating change that has taken place. Downtown would be far more interesting had Bunker Hill remained.

T2, surprisingly a good portion of the fraternal spaces have survived.



In the early 1960s the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi used the building as his Los Angeles centre for Transcendental Meditation.

— several sources say the Beatles meditated in the large auditorium on the first floor.

More prosaically, the building was briefly used as a processing laboratory for color film.

As T2 mentioned earlier today, in 1968 it became 'The Village' Recording Studio.
'The Village' was founded by Geordie Hormel, grandson of the founder of Hormel, the meat-packing company.

Wrong holiday, but here is a picture that only could have been taken in Los Angeles. Abe Lincoln leads a troop of WW I actor-veterans marching north on Spring past what I think is the State Building on Labor Day, 1937. Except for the sashes and doughboy helmets, they look like shop clerks.

The Times building looms patriotically in the distance.

This album was recorded during the summer of 63'..it was released on Nov 22nd and yeah it kinda tanked because of Kennedy, but its the best selling christmas album of all time.
