HossC, thanks for the ARCH DRIVE post.
It was fascinating. (To ME anyway!) Quote:

It's sad what some of these vintage structures deal with in the span of their lifetimes. Can you imagine a couple that tied the knot here years ago, coming back and finding a bait shop. __ Andys, thanks for locating the Los Angeles Aqueduct intake gates I posted a couple days ago. I tried to find them (10 miles north of Independence CA) on Google Earth without success. __ |
Joan Crawford in a Ford Roadster vs Lincoln Model K
[QUOTE=Chuckaluck;6522116]Flip side of the coin?
JC in '38 Lincoln Model K http://www.arts-stew.com/wp-content/...ln-Model-K.jpghttp://www.arts-stew.com/wp-content/...ln-Model-K.jpg Chuckaluck; Someone got a bit confused on this photo of JC. This car is a 1934 Ford. See: http://valenticlassics.com/valenti/v...?VehicleID=217 The 1938 Linoln Model K was a vastly different car. See: http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z...n-Model-K.aspx Cheers, Jack |

The verdict allowed integration in previously all-white neighborhoods in Los Angeles and elsewhere. The addresses on offer by the Crown Realty Co. were roughly bounded by Western and Vermont, and Jefferson and MLK (Santa Barbara). These neighborhoods SW of downtown were some of the first to be desegregated as a result of this decision. The proprietor of the Wedding Manor on Western, the Rev. Julius Du Bose, was born in Memphis, Tennessee. Perhaps he felt uncomfortable with his new neighbors and decamped for whiter pastures, as it were. |
:previous: -very interesting Lorendoc.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/28/s0n5.jpg ebay I zeroed in on the very cool Laura's sign with the giant musical note. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/203/6lxb.jpg detail Here's a further view down the street. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/811/cq9c.jpg detail Is this a segment of Sunset Boulevard in East Hollywood? __ |

I think it's Hyperion Avenue between Udell Court and DeLongpre in Silverlake. Hehe I would know because of my years of going to Circus of Books as a youth. Plus, this would be on the way to Woody's Hyperion/MJ's from Sunset Blvd. Unfortunately, MJ's closed recently, so I've heard. I was just there the Sunday of Presidents' Day weekend too, at one of the foam parties. Wild! |

Had to drive over there, of course. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-l...lauras-001.jpgGSV At left, the streetlight--a replacement--has been moved down toward the fire hydrant, with a phone pole in the old spot. The same five phone poles are along Hyperion at right (always that question: how long do these poles last? I think we answered it here once--was it 40-50 years?). Laura's, behind the bushes above, is still there at 1903, or rather her building is--"Stargate"-- (The green crosses... I'm guessing this a pot shop?). Note the rusty pole to the left below, ER--the vintage shot makes it look a lot father from the building than it is--I assume it's in the same spot. I wonder where the musical note is today? Shredded, I guess. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-3...2520AM.bmp.jpgGSV https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-l...2520AM.bmp.jpgGSV |
:previous: Good eye on noticing the rusty pole where the giant musical note used to hang. I probably would
have missed that clue. but what about this portion of the bar? It looks so much taller. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/812/iw5b.jpg Is this part of Laura's, or is the Beer Laura's sign on a different building? (ok, after looking at GW's photo again, maybe the taller building is there...but it doesn't look nearly as tall as in the photo from the late 1960s or early 70s (thanks for the date correction unihikid). |

The two car photos--one of them is reversed?
The steps are on different sides in the photos. |

I believe the newspaper photo is reversed. Many cars of that era had only one rear red light on the left side as we see in the large photo posted by ER. Link below. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=20716 |
