Is this Bert Rovere's Lucca at 5th & Western?

I've gone back through the thread and I believe this is a new image in the usc archives of the enormous Examiner sign and the wctu building.

I love the Examiner sign..I bet the arrow flashed in brilliant red.

In one of gsjansen's recent post he showed the illuminated cross atop Angelus Temple.
What was cool about his post was the fact that the lighted cross rotated 24 hours a day.
That was certainly news to me. Little details like that bring 'noirish' Los Angeles to life.

I also liked gsjansen's post on the English version of the movie 'M'.
I can't wait to see it with it's Bunker Hill locales

According to latimemachines.com, Lucca was indeed at 5th and Western and owned by "Bert Rovere, who also
owned the Paris Inn. The restaurant could accommodate 500 patrons. It also had a store and something
called a 'poker chip' bar." No explanation of what exactly made the bar unique.

Per LAPL caption, this photo was taken on December 21, 1937. Only thing is--I don't think
there are enough "LUCCA" signs, do you? How would you ever find it?

Interesting interior "streetscape"--complete with phone poles--?? Or is this the restaurant's garden? Where are we?
Maybe ninja55 will be able to clarify.

I'm not retarted, just trying to get the hang of this posting pics. Please bare with me.

This great photo is simply labeled "Rain over Los Angeles 1955" in the USC Archive.
I believe it is a new image in their online catalog.

Can anyone place the exact location?

Hmmmm. I'm not sure what you're doing wrong Ninja55.
I wish I could help but I'm not exactly the most computer savy person. :(

Anyone here have some useful tips for our new friend that has inspired so many interesting post?
