There was a story in the Los Angeles Times recently about the former home of bandleader Ray Anthony coming up for sale.

The photos did not look like the house I remember from the coverage of his big party in 1952 when Marilyn Monroe famously arrived via helicopter so I became curious about the cute little modern house built by engineer Fred O. Reyenga in 1947 for Capitol records executive William Fowler. Upon closer inspection, the original appears to still be there, but swallowed up by a much newer and larger Mission-style house.

The CD has a Pepper Tree Inn restaurant at 1114 E Colorado at the same place as the Driftwood. I bet if one slogged through the CDs, we might find a name change.

In 1930 there were some photographers on E Colorado, but none with "Quality" in their name.

Oh, my. I'd been going crazy searching for Barus. I did find a "Quality Photo Shop" in the directory for 1948 at 133 N Glendale Ave. And I think it that actually IS a photo of Glendale Ave. (third photo) because it has a single set of tracks, unlike Brand which has two sets. The buildings didn't look right, though. I'll have to take another look.

Looks like the house at 215 N. Everett st. matches one in the upper-right of the third photo.

From mid-1940s to mid-1950s, it was the location of the studio of Harry Lester, the ventriloquist-teacher of Edgar Bergen.

I think all of those buildings are still there, except the Driftwood/Pepper Tree. The Bard Theater is now a banquet hall/restaurant club. One thing that throws me off the trail is that couldn't have been taken in the early 20's, Pigley Wigley wasn't there until 1928. There were two gas stations, one a Richfield on the north corners of Colorado and Chevy Chase. That might be the first photo.

It was later occupied by Rompage Hardware, as seen in post 17377

Agree with BillinGlendaleCAThe 1936 Glendale CD has a Richfield station at 1145 E Colorado and Eastman's Service Center at 1201 E Colorado. The Richfield station was at the nw corner of E Colorado and S Chevy Chase and Eastman's at the ne corner of the same streets.

This is a 1945 photo of the Apollo.
On the Los Angeles Theatres website it says the Apollo closed in 1971.
