Here's the report below if you or anyone else is interested in reading it. Page 12 has the existing land uses for both areas with the number of parcels and total hectares for each land use. https://www.gov.mb.ca/mr/land_use_de...ary_report.pdf |

I mean, I know -- without it, would downtown be even deader, would downtown tenants just pull up if it wasn't there, winnipeg is cold, yadda, yadda. i get that we can't get rid of it but i have trouble celebrating it |
i know where you are coming from but for the the 1000's of people who work in various towers and office buildings, the ability to not wear your jacket / boots, etc to go for a power walk or lunch is great. since i started working at P&M I havent used them much as i enjoyed fresh air on my lunch hour walk, but as the weather has cooled, being able to do a 20 minutes walk and grab some lunch throughout downtown has been great.
also, i see quite a few senior and wheelchairs throughout there. i really think having more senior complexes downtown and attached to the system will only benefit the businesses all along it. |
All good points

I'll admit working downtown connected to the skywalk. I can walk from my desk to the P&M towers and not have to where my jacket, be out in the cold, etc. It's great. Summertime I definitely try to walk outside.

The problems with downtown's lack of street life go far beyond the skywalk, IMO. You could close down the entire system and I doubt it would make much of an impact...
I remember there was a period when the skywalk was closed for a long time while the arena was under construction, and then for a while due to a dispute with one of the landowners on Portage. It didn't make any difference at street level. Anyway, they did a nice job on rebuilding that new convention centre skywalk leg. It doesn't look like the 70s anymore in there now. |
removing the tinted glass and concrete "stub wall" makes it much more see-through and I'm assuming "safer"

With all the shady activities that go on at City Hall I’m surprised no director has decided to make a documentary/film on it. It would probably be a blockbuster with how comical the politics we have to endure are.
|
Ya we know the deals were shady and not charges come of it. Fucking gross.

Those with enough money play by an entirely different set of rules

I noticed boulevard work happening on Broadway between Main and Osborne. I assume compromised trees were removed, the few healthy remaining trees wrapped in protective wood and it seems like anything else has been stripped.
