I remember hearing rumors few years back that there was plans to knock Wood down and rebuild. This looks to be the case.

The new inpatient tower will start with 300 beds, with the ability to expand to 500 beyond 2027.

Since it's bumped, I'll just say there's a ton of prep work still being done in advance. They've been working on the underground garage and there's some scaffolding up at one of the skybridges at the Wood center. Demolition is still a ways off but there's still technically a lot of related work going on.

There's not much to look at, really. The building that is being replaced is still in use. There are just a lot of construction people around working on utilities and the underground existing parking garage. This tower likely won't start until their office tower is completed because they have to clear out the Wood building by making space to move those offices.

Looking forward to seeing finalized renderings for this one. I think this will be sharp and am kinda hoping in breaks that 400-foot threshold that the medical center hasn't breached yet.

This building is going to be an absolute tank

It's 475 feet above sea level. The first floor is 41 feet above sea level, so the structure is 434 feet tall.

Either way, still a substantial height for the medical center and very happy to have another building in UCity breaching the 400 foot mark.

Love this project. The design isn't incredible, but it's nice enough, has a lighting scheme, and FINALLY we have a building that will eclipse 400 feet tall in the UCity Medical Center area. :cheers:

Absolutely love what they are doing with the streetscape/plaza. This will make a real difference for people who could be facing a difficult situation.

Notice this is the same rendering in the CDR, but it's noticeably unfinished as the design is not finalized and the model of the CHOP Hub is also not finished and blended in

Interesting that they're intentionally reducing parking footprint. I generally support that, not sure if it's a great idea for a major hospital though (thinking about families here, not so much employees). Also, the new bridge connecting the current main tower and Buerger to facilitate the demolition of Wood is under construction.

Woah that lighting scheme is amazing! They've really been knocking the LED schemes out of the park recently.

Impressive. I believe this will be the tied with Cira Center for the 2nd tallest building in Univ City. Hopefully not for much longer though!

Walked by the project today. There is significant activity including demolition and site preparation underway. Also a lot of signage. This is a go.

Wow! Is Cira Centre the oldest building of the bunch? That was the early 2000's. It was a daring design and even more daring location at the time. It's just crazy how UC's skyline has exploded since then. Someone post a before/after photo please!

It's fully moving but there's a lot of foundation and other prep work left like a new skybridge. Demolition of the old building isn't scheduled until Q1 2023 so this tower won't be above ground til next year sometime

This building is THICK. It looks deceptively small in renderings but I feel like this tower will really make a huge impact.

I was surprised but I saw it's over 1.2 million sqft

I... actually think this is beginning prep work. Drove by today and there was a big sign up saying "DUE 2028", and Osler was closed to all traffic.

Yes, Osler Cr has been closed since April for full time prep work. Theyve been working on the garage underground for the future foundation. Wood is still being used actively and needs to be demoed (planned Q1 '23) first so it'll still be a long time before this is actually off the ground.

Jeez, the ink hardly dried on the CDR. Fck yeah!!

I drove up Gray's Ferry yesterday, I don't get over that way often and the Medical Campus looks very nice and dense from that vantage point. Reminds me a bit of the MD Anderson Texas Medical Center in Houston

The footprint will be much larger than just Wood, actually. It'll come out about as far as the buildings next door. Osler Circle is set to become a normal 2 way road basically.

This building will be massive; its length and width will be broader than its neighbors and its height will be substantial; it should be a good deal taller than the graphics suggest especially when you look at the height of the neighboring buildings.

They're digging for the building core right adjacent to Wood now. They're about 1-2 floors under the bottom of the old parking garage already. You can't see it from the photos there. I'll try and snap some from an overhead view. My office is in the building across the street.
