The W is considered dated for its target audience and the parent company is trying to reposition it towards this generation's 20s/early 30s who have different priorities than the 20s/early 30s of 20 years ago. There is a sharp decline in alcohol consumption in today's younger people which pretty much clashes with the typical W's nightclub ambiance for example.

Marijuana legalization, social trends, more health conscious attitudes, and the importance of one's appearance on social media seem to be contributing to the decline after googling "gen z drinks less".

When the W came about in the late 1990s, Gen X was on their mind and I can't imagine there are a lot of 50-something nightclub goers these days, Scottsdale cougars aside...

Although I agree with marijuana legalization contributing to the decline of alcohol consumption as well as the decline of intellect and motivation in some (I have a couple of lazy ass pothead nephews), I know many people who care so much about the importance of their appearances on social media that they tend to lie about their status and appearances. :)

The only way to win sociial media is not to play.

I honestly think my decision a decade ago to not engage in social media was the best decision I ever made. I am luckily old enough now that nobody is going to be weirded out by my lack of internet presence and I don't work in a field that would expect it from me.

Social media is a nightmare.

Same. I got off Facebook in 2010 and it’s been a great 13 years.

And as more residential buildings and hotels are built, the foot traffic will only increase. A vibrant downtown that feels safe is something the City Council has direct control over, so something to keep in mind with the special election coming up.

I was down there on Friday for the Suns game, it was basically the same thing, we tried to get into a lot of places for some drinks/food before the game and everything was totally filled by 6-7pm. Awesome atmosphere that should get noticeably larger as the next wave of 10-11 projects start to get built and fill up with people.

Mayo Clinic hopes to break ground this year on 120-acre medical research campus in North Phoenix

That Mayo Clinic expansion is a big, big deal. Having excellent healthcare options is a significant aspect of a thriving metro. This is a top hospital as it is and with the growth will continue to draw in patients from outside of the state and will keep some patients from the area who would otherwise get second opinions from UCLA etc. This will hopefully push University of Arizona/Banner, Creighton, and Barrow to continue to improve. Additionally adding a number of high paying biomedical jobs and developing this in conjunction with ASU is a major step forward and something that doesn't currently exist in the Valley. This can provide a springboard to further development in the Biomedical sphere. This is great for increasing the diversity of the economy. Hopefully it goes through as envisioned.

I believe they are building the new Phoenix Rising FC soccer stadium there, or close by.

It went out of business back in 2009.
