i would agree with that.

if OCS pops early next year as we all hope/expect, then that would be 7 towers over 700' that this boom has produced, the largest number of such towers of any building boom in the city's history.

to put that number into perspective, only 3 US cities even have more than 7 buildings over 700' to begin with: new york (80), houston (11), and los angeles (9).

OCS would bring chicago's total to 26, planting chicago solidly in 2nd place nationally (NYC is in another universe these days).

This will be a big moment considering there were only 13 buildings over 700 feet in the city as recently as 2007. Half of Chicago's tallest building will have been built in a little over a decade. And don't forget about WPS and Union Station tower, those are also likely to begin this cycle. Good times!

you're misunderstanding how the union station RFP process worked.

their was no "original height" for anything. nothing was "downsized".

that 960' tall SOM tower was a design scheme floated by one of the development teams (sterling bay) that didn't win the competition. it was just an idea of what might be built on the site, not an actual proposal.

the team that did win (riverside) proposed the current 715' tall union station tower that looks likely to be built now that BMO harris has signed on as the anchor tenant.
