Looking back on earlier posts for this, I think they were shooting for 270'. Hopefully, they can pull it off. Nice height for South of Jackson.

Kind of a useless article on Downtown Phoenix and "mixed reactions" even though only one person was quoted in the article. Thought I would post for discussion.

https://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/mi...wntown-phoenix

Also, I'm not sure where McKay is counting 14 cranes? I can only come up with 9 between Downtown and Midtown.

Current Cranes:
1. Hines
2. AC
3. Wexford
4. Thunderbird
5 & 6. X Phoenix
7. Kenect
8. Creighton
9. Novell

Upcoming Cranes (only counting projects currently in build process):
1. Link 2
2. Aspire
3. ASU Residential
4. Fillmore
5. Broadstone Portland
6. The Battery

That's all I can think of on top of my head. Any that I am missing?

I think they counted cranes at the airport as well as smaller non-tower cranes.

That's what I was thinking. Kinda cheating the crane count though. Generally, I only count tower cranes and self erecting cranes. Mobile cranes, I could care less about, but I guess that counts. So, she's probably counting things like the convention center shoring cranes?

There's a tower crane at 3rd St & Earll. She's likely including that, and so could you for Midtown.

There are also a couple off of 32nd St (?) near I-10.

Now that's cheating LOL are you thinking about the business that rents out the cranes near there and has a couple of them erected? :haha:

gymratmanaz Feb 4, 2020 3:51 PM

I have seen more cranes in the water near Salt River and even Tempe Town Lake........but they fly away if you get too close. :)

I know and they won't stand still for a pic! Definitely fun to see all the exotic birds along Tempe Town Lake this time of year! I guess Bald Eagles will even pass by.

Is that what they are? They're tower cranes, what ever their purpose is. HAHA. I wondered why they were up for so long as I periodically drive that stretch of I-10.

Been in the works for a while but the affordable housing on 19th ave and Camelback looks like it will begin soon:http://azbex.com/multifamily-afforda...ed-to-phoenix/

Plans for a new multifamily affordable housing development to be located near the Light Rail Corridor have recently been resubmitted to the City of Phoenix.

Catholic Charities Communities Services of Arizona, along with developer, Trinity Housing Development is requesting to rezone approximately 3.9 acres just north of the NEC of 19th Avenue and Camelback Road at 5033 N. 19th Avenue, from Intermediate Commercial District, Interim Transit-Oriented Zoning Overlay District One and Walkable Urban Code, Transect T5:5 District, Transit Solano Character Area, to Walkable Urban Code Transect T5:5 District, Transit Solano Character Area.

The City of Phoenix heard the request at its Alhambra Village Planning Committee meeting on January 28th.

The project, dubbed Mesquite Terrace, is proposed as a 297-unit multifamily development consisting of a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units housed in a total of four buildings. The buildings will range in size and include two, five-story buildings, one, four-story building and a single-story community building.

The project will be built in two phases and is intended to provide much needed affordable housing around the Light Rail Corridor, according to the project’s site plan.

“The ground level will include parking, three lobbies and units with porch frontages,” the narrative states. Approximately 114 parking spaces – including five ADA spaces – and 50 bicycle parking spaces will be provided.

Plans also include “a large central courtyard with amenities and community space,” according to the narrative.

Previous Version

This is not the first time Mesquite Terrace has made its way through the city’s planning department.

Rezoning for the project was approved by the Phoenix Planning Commission on February 1st, 2018 and by the City Council on March 7th, 2018. At that time the project was only proposed as a four-story, 80-unit affordable housing development.

The owner was applying for Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) from the Arizona Department of Housing for up to 97 units but was unable to receive the funding.

According to the current project narrative, the owner is once again applying for LIHTC.

The project is set to be heard at the Phoenix Planning Commission meeting on February 6th.

The Phoenix Country Club Condos PUD was denied at the Encanto Village Planning Committee 6-5. Did anyone attend or have details on what went down?

I thought this had been settled by the Phoenix Council and was lowered substantially and sent back to make it more street friendly? I take it the revamped plans didn't address these issues?

Add another crane to the skyline. ASU Residential tower crane to go up tomorrow morning and will be about 263' according to the construction foreman onsite.

Edit: Also took a couple quick pics while at Burton Barr today. Sorry for the poor quality, they need to clean the windows. This view compared to about 3 years ago is amazing. I'll have to dig up some of my older pics for comparison.

Final building plans came in for the hotel located at the lot behind the Orpheum Lofts. Mortenson is the building contractor - they certainly have a good track record downtown.
