Looks like the glass is finished... that was quick. Building is looking very nice.

Kumdogmillionaire Sep 15, 2018 3:26 PM

Wait... are they adding fins to this one's glass?

That last sepia type shot is of the OLD Essex hotel - next door.

BonoboZill4 Sep 16, 2018 5:37 AM

Speaking of detailing, it does look like the bottom of the tower better reflects the neighbor tower and the old Essex building. Any reason it's not continued all the way up? (referring to floors 6-9)

Along with NEMA and SoMi, S Loop starting to have quite the impressive cluster to anchor southern end of Grant Park

Almost feel like I'm going to get shot in the back of the head, but looking at Harryc's photos, can't help but feeling like "I love a nice simple glass box"

The gruesomeness is a reference to 1984...They broke me.

Donnie77 Sep 21, 2018 2:11 AM

€$$€X turned out like a gem and Nema looks like an absolute monster. I Can't even imagine how sweet her taller twin sister will look like!

Looking really good Southside

Many a southern sprawl new cities would consider this south Loop pic the Creme de la Creme and proof that the north is dying a fast death if they had these buildings in their core.

Where as I, I love that pic of the south loop looking south over Grant Park.

I just Cant wait till they cover the tracks in a couple hundred years.

nice shot. I guess I don't dislike the bump as much as I thought I would

Are the top floors penthouse or mechanical?

I'm glad they continued the verticality of the silver steel beams. I was suspecting this when they started adding the "bump" and am now glad its visually confirmed lol.

Such a quality addition in this cycle.

The top floor of vision glass is the top penthouse floor. The spandrel glass covers up the mechanical space.

PittsburghPA Sep 27, 2018 12:30 AM

Taken today. Not any major developments in the picture but it was the first time I've seen the building live in a few weeks and damn does it look good from all angles.

The metallic detailing on the sides is gorgeous now that I can see it completed(roughly). South Loop straight killed it

Donnie77 Sep 27, 2018 3:54 AM

That crown should really shine in the sun if the renderings are to be followed!

1. Vista
2. Nema
3.Essex
4.Bennett
5.Somi

For now

Thanks. Wasn't sure if a ken g. penthouse 9 walton was added.

J_M_Tungsten Oct 9, 2018 3:16 AM

That first one reminds me of a stretched out Inland Steel Building, but really only in that shot.

Skyguy_7 Oct 9, 2018 12:22 PM

Solar, why are you posting renderings? ;) :haha:

Just beautiful.

Even though this tower is only in the 600s, when the skyline is viewed from the Planetarium/Aquarium, it easily looks 800+ and is a great addition to the city! Love the green

Location, Location, Location. Imagine if it was built in the central Loop. Nobody would ever see it. 181 West Madison comes to mind when thinking of buildings that have little impact despite being impressively tall with a striking design.

IrishIllini Oct 9, 2018 9:22 PM

This one is a stunner.

Yep! 181 West Madison is one of my favorites to stand underneath. It's verticality and mass make it so imposing when in the close quarter confines of other buildings.

LouisVanDerWright Oct 10, 2018 4:08 PM

The biggest disappearing act of any large building in Chicago is Chase Tower which is all but invisible unless you are standing right next to it or like in Itasca. You can see a bit of it from certain angles in Grant Park, but for an 850' tall block long building it's damn near invisible.

As someone who spends about half his time on the South side, and I commute back and forth between the Loop and downtown I've got to disagree. It's a massive and unmistakable building when viewed from the south. Very pretty at night too with the crown lit up

there is something about this building. It seems to be reaching & stretching towards the sky and I absolutely love it

Skyguy_7 Oct 22, 2018 3:13 PM

^ I agree.

My only qualm is I hope they either glaze the exposed concrete on the penthouse or carry the silver metal panels up and onto that area. It would create a very cool flying buttress appearance. (<-- Redundant, I know)

I was wondering th same thing!

Personally I hope they continue the silver panels.

They should just shorten it to 'Sex on the Park...

Ned.B Oct 22, 2018 7:53 PM

I'm pretty sure that the renderings show the metal panel extending across the exposed concrete surfaces.

Also, I just noticed in the photo looking up from the base that the fins on the tower's podium step in slightly transitioning from the first several floors to the winter garden space. That's a very subtle and clever nod to the way the piers on the main tower step back at mid-height.

The panels on the west side are already close to complete. You can see them if you drive east on Congress. Anyone have a photo of this? I think it looks really good.

Love the last pic, solar. Never seen that vantage point before - what building did you snap the pic from?

IrishIllini Oct 28, 2018 3:29 PM

Great pictures. Essex is sexy af and the view south is highly underrated. Hyde Park is the most under appreciated tier one neighborhood in the city. I wish the green line was closer and more inviting. I'd seriously consider living down there.

Kngkyle Oct 28, 2018 4:04 PM

This thing went from initial proposal to construction completion in just about 2 years. Props to the development team for having their shit together.

Bombardier Oct 28, 2018 4:29 PM

^Yes it went quick and is being turned over in February, about a month early. The hoist will start to be removed around 11/5. Can't wait to see the full presence at the Michigan Ave street level.

I've heard rumblings that it may be coming back from the grave

The hoist has been completely removed and it looks pretty cool. The hoist bay glass will start tomorrow.

^ Those are nice pics and this one turned out very nice with that green glass. Hey just a quick question-in that 1st pic it looks like there's either a road or maybe a busway on the left side of the railroad trench-just wondering what that's about? I remember riding South Shore trains thru that area a few yrs back.

BRT - or Bus Rapid Transit - used by the shuttle buses between the downtown hotels and McCormick.
