2250 Albert Street

I think someone posted on the main thread that it is a real estate office

Stormer Jul 6, 2016 8:45 PM

Popped in to CS Hall today. Wow! It is quite the place. Very large. Patio is not done yet but will also be large.

So the Green Mile is actually becoming a thing. In 2007 when the City designated part of Albert St. to honour the Riders' GC win, it was just a stretch of busy road near Mosaic. In just the last few years all sorts of new establishments have opened including the Keg, Leopold's, Slow Pub, Lot Club and Cathedral Social Hall.

Anyone know what's going on in the building at 2250 Albert? There is some renos happening, new windows and doors have gone in and looks like the inside is being renoed as well. Would be a good spot for a new pub or restaurant.

It's not marketed towards me but does anyone know how the Lot Club is doing. It never seems especially busy.

It's been busy any time I've been there. Been to a few sold out events there also. I know a lot of people my age (late 20s, early 30s) like the vibe (and lack of 19 year olds haha). I think they're doing okay and the owners are 30-somethings who know their clientele and what they want so I think they'll continue to do well.

Tried out CSH. I like it. The atmosphere is very casual and loud. The food was good. Service was slow, but very polite. The manager, on his own initiative, came over and apologized and said this was growing pains (second day open) and the would soon be doing much better. He gave us a discount.

I really like the flights of draft. There are so many beers on tap that this gives you a chance to try them out without getting wasted.

Overall a great addition to downtown and the Green Mile.

I noticed they were installing a new sign at Hanabi Restaurant today. The sign was upside down so couldn't read it well but it has a new name, something Izakaya, anyone know the scope?

An Izakaya is a tradional Japanese pub/eating establishment for afterwork drinks and food. Closer to a Spanish tapas than an irish pub with more emphasis on food. It will be interesting to see if they have real Japanese fare and sake or if its just a gimmicky name.

could be the next stage in Regina's cosmopolitan deveopment beyond sushi if it is an izakaya.

For some reason I thought Hanabi was on Albert st. I didn't realize it was on Broad. Not sure how well an Izakaya will do there as personal safety on that part of broad becomes an issue after dark.

Merged the "Regina Restaurants" thread from sometime back with "Pubs and Restaurants Regina" here. One stop for 2 similar threads.

Looking at their development in the north end Superstore, my guess is it'll be one of the chain restaurants from that development:

ie.: either a Swiss Chalet, Kelsey's (unlikely though), Montana's, or Milestone Steak House.

There's a new vegetarian/vegan restaurant in the Heritage neighbourhood:

I'm excited to try this place, but I still miss Daisy's. :(

Probably a good idea. It was actually NEW Pubs and Restaurants in DOWNTOWN Regina. There have been so many new ones downtown in the last few years that it may be overbuilt. Merger the two will keep this thread active.

significantly more taxidermy than I'd expect from a vegetarian/vegan restaurant ;)

EDIT: I see from Facebook that they're plastic. Things are making sense again.

BrutallyDishonest2 Aug 5, 2016 4:33 AM

The name makes no sense to me.

Sounds like a bad strategy.

I won't even eat there ironically.

Skye Cafe and Bistro

Great development, looks like the Science Center is finally getting a new restaurant, and it includes some quality players in the food industry. Milton Rebello a well know chef is the owner with his wife. The former owner of Orange Boot Bakery will be the pastry chef. Orange Boot was by far the best bakery in the city until it closed. Looks like a killer herb/veg garden as well. It opens this week and will be worth a try.
