It was trying to track down filming locations that first led me to NLA all those years ago!

Movies and TV shows often capture both obscure and mundane locations that stills photographers might ignore. They also show us angles from raised platforms, moving vehicles and even helicopters that give us a different perspective on familiar places. Please keep posting the filming locations, t2.

Paulette wasn't the first to use it. Here's a 1955 print ad from The Hollywood-Maxwell Brassiere Company.

This wizard is slightly terrifying, no? The "Intimate Apparel" shop at Disneyland was one of the original Main Street stores but closed by the end of 1955.

I just watched The Replacement Killers again, and really enjoyed it. The locations are great, I love Chow Yun Fat (I'm a big fan of Hong Kong movies), and Mira Sorvino was excellent in her role. It might not be a critics' favorite, but I'll watch it any time!

PS: One of the main reasons that I first got into LA's architecture was from watching Blade Runner in 1982. I wanted to see all of the places that appeared in that movie (Bradbury Building, Union Station, the Lloyd Wright house on Franklin, even the Pan-American building, etc) - so I say GO AHEAD and share your obsessions with LA filming locations. After all, I'm the guy who made two giant posts about the filming locations of Barfly! And I just made a post about Falling Down!

Brassieres at Disneyland? I thought Walt's idea was of a fantasy Main Street where there was only vanilla ice cream and white people, certainly no sex. Maybe gate receipts had slowed and he was trying to excite the dads into bringing the family, who'd ride the rides while he got off on the Wizard's exhibit.

It was part of the original Main Street when the park opened in July of 1955 and closed at the end of the year, so it wasn't brought in to goose the gate.

Someone needs to help me find the original 1955 Disneyland tape of the Wizard of Bras narrating the history of saucy undergarments. Then we'll sneak into Disneyland late at night when no one is looking and swap it with the audio tape from Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.

Looking over my old posts, and trying to see if I could correct wrong stuff, I found that Martin Turnbull has the same photo at his web site. He states it was taken in 1937 at the Ocean Park Pier at Santa Monica. The 1936 SM CD shows the Ocean Park Bowling & Billiard Co at 1 Ocean Park Pier. I'd feel a lot better about the identification if I could read the name of the hotel. Any guesses?

It's the Dome Hotel--we were seeing images of Ocean Park well before 2017, as far back as post 6529 in 2012, if not further. Seems to me we've discussed the Dome Hotel, but I couldn't find posts about it with the less-than-friendly search box here...maybe someone else can....

The Myrtle St./California Ave. off ramp from the 210 Fwy East, places you almost directly across the street from "The Wizard of Bras" at the first signal light. I recall noticing it a few times when exiting the freeway over the years; apparently it's still there.

The Google Street view from 2012 of that location makes a really strong case for that being the location. Looks the same with a different paint job and neon removal. I was pretty sure I'd seen it in Koreatown.

3608 W 3rd still looked like this until late 2014. The December 2014 GSV image shows the front covered with scaffolding, and the March 2015 image shows it stripped down.

I checked the address in the 1973 CD, and found the Catalina Fireside Room. Googling this gave me a single hit on USC's ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives, but provided no further information.

Thanks so much for finding this place, Lorendoc - it was literally the last single location from Barfly I could not find, and it was driving me crazy! I have updated my original post to included the location of Yoshiko's (with credit to Lorendoc, of course!). And thanks to Martin Pal for bringing the subject up again, prompting Lorendoc's response!

The location makes sense, too - it is exactly across the street from this scene:

You're welcome Scott Charles and that's exactly why I did it! Sometimes fresh eyes pick up something from earlier posts that may have been missed or just overlooked!

Just now when I read Lorendoc's "Maybe it was solved already?" above I thought perhaps I hadn't searched long enough and overlooked that it had been found earlier. And I came across your post which you had just updated, but I didn't know that and thought I may have been wrong, but then I noticed the update date!
