Anyone know what’s going on with the Sterling Lofts? Residents moving in but it doesn’t look like anything’s happened in the commercial spaces in months.

Saw this on an album shared on the TNS forum... Look how beautiful the Winnipeg Hotel was! Lets hope that it can be brought back like its neighbor was.

What are the economics of converting mid-century office buildings to residential?

It strikes me that Wawanesa's current (soon to be former) headquarters would make for a great conversion. Look at those giant windows! And space in the parking lot next door for another tower...

Drove past the old Agape Table site on Colony today. Bollards with fencing have arrived and the small park that was beside it is gone. Looks like a new tower thread coming up soon!

In terms of the 1919 strike monument I think it is reasonable to be asking if there is a budget and plan for annual upkeep and maintenance. Being outdoors in Winnipeg it will suffer from the elements even if vandalism does not happen.

When did I say that there would not be a budget for upkeep or repair from the elements? There would be, just as there would be for any public art. It was Yorkville who seemed to imply there was something special about this particular piece of art.

The uplighting is installed on Fortune Block and it looks amazing. They're leaving it in a normal soft yellow, but they're all colour-changing LEDs. Saw them testing last week, maybe will change for events like 220 Portage.

Thanks for the info! I imagine they will boost the street scene and welcome ness by at least 200% in that area. Next up Winnipeg Hotel I really desire......

Nope to terraces, housing, or rich people?

More like Ambiguous Viking am I right????

trueviking Jul 3, 2019 9:53 PM

no to the terraces being for rich people. Its an amazing mixed income building. If I was the Premier I would help finance 100 of these buildings.

Ando Jul 4, 2019 5:04 PM

You would definitely be an upgrade on the incumbent.
