Poinsettia fields, Hollywood, etc.

I had mentioned earlier this month and subsequent posts showed that poinsettia fields once dotted the areas around West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. This youtube link, 1940's, right near the beginning, shows a large poinsettia field off Sunset, though the exact location isn't specified. Later on, one of the houses has a poinsettia plant in the picture. There's brief glimpses of Hollywood (the Blvd. at night at Christmas) and environs in this, what I suspect was some kind of travel film, including a bit of The Carthay Circle Theater in color. (All the film is in color, though it isn't the best quality.)

Thanks for the comment, Albany NY. I'm learning as I go. I also realized that my post didn't fit the noir category. But after spending an afternoon in the thread surrounded by photos of old LA, when I saw this particular video, I lost it! ha ha!

Pacific Dining Car Christmas
 

I was able to enjoy a Christmas morning brunch at the Pacific Dining Car, which has a long history in LA.

I realized that I'm actually two years behind the current posts. But ethereal_reality, your photo reminded me that I went to a memorial service some years (and a few camera phone iterations) ago. Took this very poor photo from inside, but you might be able to see the potential beauty and charm of this window and the place as a whole.

313 E. Broadway
 

Don't know if this has been pinned down yet, photo predates 1926 as the fire station was replaced by a newer building that has since been razed. This station stood where the current Post Office stands at 313 E. Broadway, between Louise and Kenwood. It also housed the City Jail, if I'm not mistaken. The station that replaced this one stood at 210 S. Orange St. from 1926 to about 2005.

First post after being a long time lurker. Currently on page 625 and enjoying the ride, so far!

My son has Xbox so off to buy it and so I did, came home and wow and I am hooked

It is like they made this game for all of us with a affection for the 30s and 40s

Both the Big Loaf and the Little Loaf were eventually dyn-o-mited into oblivion to make way for the two casinos. The little casino was torn down and now we have the big one. Here's an ER link about Sugar Loaf.

This style reminds me of an old car dealer building at 10223 Washington Bl across the street from Sony/MGM Studios in Culver City.

I used to get my VW serviced here a hundred years ago. The front building would have been showroom, the back service and the back lot behind (now occupied by a recent apartment complex):

I've always been curious.

The little casino was not actually destroyed. It was moved inland to become part of a bird sanctuary, the structure (minus the solid walls) becoming a sort of giant birdcage. There it remains - the bird park closed in the 1960s and the structure is now the play area of a preschool at #4 Bird Park Rd., Avalon. You can see the octagonal structure in Google Maps but I have been unable to find a modern photo of it.

It appears to have been built in the late '40s for Ulrich Sales & Service, a Pontiac dealer that had previously been in Monterey Park. Seems to have lasted into the mid '70s.
