Thanks to everyone who helped to identify the car at First and Figueroa. I'm still curious about Barbara Ann's "Double Flavor Bread".

I'm guessing this is a music teacher (black dress, sitting at right) posing with her students.

This diagram shows how a group of mystery men assertively spied from a "hide-out" house on the home of Harry Raymond from last September until three days after he was bombed. Neighbors of Raymond have identified the mystery occupants as Capt. Earl Kynette of the police "trouble shooting" squad and certain of his officers. The man tapped Raymond's telephone. "This photo was taken on the morning of January 14, shortly after Harry Raymond stepped on the starter of his car and set off the planted bomb that blew out the sides of his garage and sent hundreds of pieces of metal tearing into his body." Here is the "hideout" house from which a group of mystery men assertively spied on Raymond's home from last September until three days after the bombing. Neighbors identified Kynette and some of his officers as the men who occupied the house. From the window indicated by an arrow a clear view of the Raymond home could be had. This is dated 1948, but no location.
It looks to me like the building on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Doheny.

Update: GW has identified this location as Santa Monica Blvd. and San Vicente. Val's Coffee Shop is on the NE corner of SMB.

In keeping with the Hollywood Hotel and Highland Avenue color photos posted recently, I don't find that these have been previously seen on NLA.

That ghost of a staircase on the wall of the sporting goods store is intriguing. Does anyone know what building was there?

It's part of the original two-tier parking structure at the Parker Center. There's no date with the picture, but I'd guess at mid-50s - there was an extra building on the single-story portion of the parking lot (nearest the camera) by 1962.

A higher angle from a year earlier. This one was probably taken at the same time as the one I posted of Figueroa and Second.

That hilltop Victorian at the NE corner of 1st & Figueroa always intrigued me (upper right of the first pic, upper center of the first). I always thought it fronted onto Flower, which was why it seems hidden by the other houses, but the aerial clearly shows that my perception of the distance between Flower & Figueroa was way off. I also always thought it was one main floor, but the aerial shows it was a two-story house. Anybody have any other info/closer photos of the house? I've got another version of the first photo in the quote with an interesting annotation in the upper right corner, reading "Korean Society Site (Chang Ho House)". Wonder if it can provide any clues for anyone who might know:

http://i1312.photobucket.com/albums/...psda0c67c5.jpgfrom my files

Tetsu May 14, 2014 12:44 AM

Sorry guys, sometimes I forget that good old Google can do the trick. Lol. Apparently the house was the home of Dosan Ahn Chang Ho and family, "an activist and prominent leader of the Korean resistance movements (1905-1945) as well as a leader in the Korean-American community. Numerous memorials have been built in his honor, including statues in Dosan Memorial Park in Seoul and Riverside, California. In Los Angeles, there is Dosan Ahn Chang Ho Post Office in Koreatown and Dosan Ahn Chang Ho Square, at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Van Buren Place." -LAPL

A picture of Dosan Ahn Chang Ho standing on the front porch of the home in question, whose address was apparently 106 N. Figueroa:
