Why are they glassing in the sides facing the I site? Isn't the last tall building being built there going to connect at the same level or is there a gap between them and that glassed in area with be units or amenities? I have looked around and i can't find a pic of how the base of the tall site I building interacts with the others.

I believe that is currently used as a showroom for cirrus and cascade...one site I starts construction im assuming it will be removed.

The sales center is down on Water st next to the Shoreham

When this came up before someone said they were told it would be used as temporary construction offices. There is a trailer or two out on Site I, so not sure if that is still the case.

Either way, the glass is still a curious choice. It is most certainly temporary, and definitely more costly than just blocking up the openings. Maybe it was just faster? Maybe they are anticipating it will be a while before I starts and wanted a more finished solution for an area residents will use?

Well if you look at the renderings (which can obviously change), the facade of the Parcel I tower looks somewhat similar... although the vertical metal bands appear more narrow and silver-ish in color. :shrug:

There is some cladding up on the eastern tower (Cirrus?) the cladding looks like it's a bronze color while the western tower looks more copper.

The site for this first phase of the master plan sits between N Harbor Drive and Lake Shore Drive, and is just south of the multi-level Wacker Drive that runs along the Chicago River. Cirrus’ official address is 211 N Harbor Drive and Cascade’s address is 455 E Waterside Drive.

According to Curbed, Cirrus will house 363 condo units across its 47 floors, while Cascade will house 503 rental apartments across its 37 floors. The condominium units will begin at $400,000 and top off at around $4 million. Additional programming amongst the two is a parking podium that sits below N Harbor Drive and will service 589 cars. Together, the two towers will offer more than one million square feet of floor space.

BKL Architecture is responsible for the designs, while The Skyscraper Center lists James McHugh Construction Co and Lendlease Corporation as joint general contractors.

Although the towers will differ in their exact massings, but they complement each other. Their shared motif includes an asymmetrical setback near each roof and even more noticeably a distinct, serrated facade.

Cirrus and Cascade are both expected to open in 2021, as part of a larger development by Lendlease and Magellan to fill in Lakeshore East’s northeast corner. A third residential tower, dubbed “Parcel I,” will rise 950 feet tall and is planned to commence build next once current construction wraps up.

Anyone else not a fan of the brown vertical panels? The idea is good but I feel like they clash with the glass and would look better some sort of blue.

Great to see the progress though, I can see these being topped off Q4 this year

I could not disagree more and so does the color wheel, they are an orangey brown which is complementary to blue.

Agree on the copper, but I also like that there will be a contrast between the accent color on the two buildings, however slight to the average eye.

The most recent images showing the buildings side by side tells me that (although I prefer the copper) the smoked glass will be the real showpiece of the window-wall system. . . I love the accents, and am glad they used different colors for each tower. . . every time I look at them I'm liking it more and more. . .

Maybe it's the lighting / angle, but both facades looks better in that last picture.

Will there be some sort of park between the towers? Hard to tell from the renderings.

It's crazy to see the gap in columns on that southwest side...a true testament on the strength of modern concrete.
