Extremely underwhelming! What could have been considering the location.

pianowizard Jun 7, 2021 7:27 PM

Don't worry, they are saving the (second) best for last, the 950' Site I.

Actually, I find this view quite pleasing as is.

Totally disagree, these are filler to backdrop site I. I actually love how these relate to chandler on the right (red stripes on the right tower) and white/aquamarine color scheme to park shore on the left. That plus the interesting amagamation of bay windows makes these a solid background for a landmark tower in the most prominent spot.

Speaking of Site I, anyone want to start a pool on the construction start date for Site I now that these two towers and the pandemic are wrapping up?

chicubs111 Jun 8, 2021 12:41 PM

Yea I agree about having the darker color on the outside larger tower and the lighter color on the smaller interior tower. That smaller tower will be pretty much blocked from this vantage point once Parcel I gets developed

Photos: Cascade Park opens in Lakeshore East

The article says: "The opening of Cascade Park also coincides with the first move-ins at the 37-story Cascade apartment tower at nearby 455 E. Waterside Drive...Cascade's sibling, a 47-story condominium building, known as Cirrus, is on track to welcome residents to its 350 for-sale units this fall."

the urban politician Aug 9, 2021 12:42 AM

Some of these parks and public spaces, like this cascading park, are just as special as the towers themselves.

They will make this a special place for generations, especially as the vegetation grows in

The chokepoint

The right way to cover parking.

colemonkee Aug 9, 2021 2:37 PM

That park is amazing especially as vines grow up that concrete wall. Will be a very special place in a few years.

LouisVanDerWright Aug 10, 2021 5:33 PM

These turned out well, the details are nicely done. My only complaint is that the As on the CASCADE font don't match. Why didn't they bend the legs of the As like they bent every other letter?

Huh? This criticism makes no sense.

The "bent legs" are only being used with curvy letters or curvy portions of letters. Such as the 'C' or the 'S'. You will notice that the 'E' is all straight, as is the vertical portion of the 'D'

The 'A' having no bent legs is totally consistent.

these look really good for what they are - nice fillers before the big guy

my beef with this whole area is the park and walking around / between levels to get in, out, or to anything - it's really difficult and tiring. Maybe once the last two lots are built it will gel?

You wouldn't say this in San Francisco or Hong Kong!

The level changes are an awesome change of pace in a dead-flat city, and they open up all kinds of great views and overlooks. Most of the level changes are handled carefully with monumental stairs and elevators scattered throughout.

Honestly I think LSE does gel for the most part, although up until Vista the streets themselves were the usual CDOT standard from everywhere else in the city - wide empty concrete pavement, sidewalks too narrow, etc. Missed opportunity to provide truly pedestrian-friendly streetscapes. Hopefully this mistake is not repeated on The 78, Lincoln Yards, and Bronzeville Lakefront.

I agree with you in theory, but checking it out yesterday it seemed very cramped, incoherent and inaccessible. It will make a nice open space for Cascade residents, but doesn't seem to dialogue with the rest of LSE or the Lakefront Trail.

Mr Downtown Aug 11, 2021 5:43 PM

^I had the same reaction. The ADA switchbacks just break it up into tiny bits and pieces of turf that add up to nothing but a place to empty the dog.

Are the handrails on the lightly sloping segments temporary? They seem cheap and like they stop free flow through the park.

Remember switchbacks of the original design? It was batshit.

Cascade Park Sledding Hill?

And the conditions don't do the towers any favors:

^ Nice pics. I like the appearance of that cascading park, but in practicality it doesn’t end up being very usable park space. Perhaps that was intentional? (ie keep the “riff raff” to a minimum)

It is even less usable as a route through the neighborhood to the lakefront.

chicubs111 Jan 2, 2022 3:35 PM

^ its a stretch to call it a "park"..lol... This city tends to use the term way to loosely especially for any small landscaped patch of grass with a few benches on it

NYC2ATX Jan 3, 2022 11:47 PM

Are these completed? They sure look like it lol .. the snowfall photos are beautiful, but I feel like it's probably time to move this to the completed threads archive. :P

The Cascade certainly looked like it had tenants. Don't know about the Cirrus, though they're advertising that you can rent in the Cascade while waiting for your condo to be completed, which makes me think there is still some interior work to be done? https://cirruscondos.com/leaseandbuy

west-town-brad Jan 13, 2022 9:47 PM

that "park" would have made a great sledding hill...

I must have food on my mind at all times, because I was envisioning a very different kind of jam room :/
