Excellent. I've been wondering about this parcel for ages. Way overdue.
Should be sizable given the footprint and location, and mixed-use functionality. I believe the zoning for this parcel is also very generous. |

It's one of the 2 sites (the other is the block south of Javits) that was slated for affordable housing under the governor's West Side plan announced a couple of months ago. https://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/...6&q=60&o=f&l=f https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...w1EvcFY.d1.JPG https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...iwCBCvw.d2.JPG https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...ckx3zDK.d3.JPG https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...3nrkBq6.d4.JPG https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...9m37NCJ.d5.JPG https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...IeTeJRJ.d6.JPG https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...rxk2LiE.d7.JPG https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...zp03dgz.d8.JPG |
Some throwback news for the site, where Extell Development was at one time planning the tallest hotel in the country at 980 ft...

Good news. Given the huge lot and the potential FAR and air rights, we may be getting another Hudson Yards supertall.

Well, if Extell’s Gary Barnett returned into the project, then I hope for a 90-story, and 1,300-1,400ft tall tower. ;)
|
Oh, that's right. Extell was planning a supertall hotel here many years ago.
Doubt this will be a hotel; will likely be residential or mixed-use. |

I just hope that it's not another boring box.

I would be inclined to think mixed used but given the market outlook (positive), we could be in store for a hospitality (hotel) boom or at least a sizable increase in citywide square footage... so a mixed-used is starting to become more and more feasible. With some recent reveals with other parcels or considerations, looks like developers are expressing confidence for the cycle.

Well, an 800-900 ft tower would be very disappointing indeed. If it were a mixed-use tower, then hopefully it will be at least 1,100-1,200 ft tall. Furthermore, the idea of building affordable housing in this place is not very good. If you really want to build a lot of affordable housing the block between west 29th, west 28th and 11th avenue is perfect.

So it could cantilever over that ventilation building so long as the cantilever is over 187'-7".
