Christmas Tree Lane
CHRISTMAS TREE LANE
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.a/6...745b19c970b-pi LAT Christmas, circa 1938. Thousands of cars rumble down Altadena's Santa Rosa Avenue for “The Mile of Trees.” (The article says it wasn’t really a mile long and that it is now known as Christmas Tree Lane.) …by 1945 close to a quarter of a million visitors drove along Christmas Tree Lane at year's end with car lights off to heighten the effect. Story about it HERE! Non-holiday view, undated. http://waterandpower.org/Historical_..._Tree_Lane.jpgLAPL Since I have them handy, a few holiday photo related posts: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...&postcount=701 http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...postcount=9300 http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=10750 http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=11129 http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=11132 http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=11133 …and more on this page: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...od#post5950202 |

I don't deny that it's a cool looking building and I'm proud of it and all but every time I see certain photos of
L.A. City Hall from that certain angle, I'm reminded of a gigantic Lego penis. It's just too obvious. What were they thinking? Who were they fooling? Sublimation at it's finest? . http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XRrU8-3Nmi...0/DSCN1811.JPG http://dearoldhollywood.blogspot.com...city-hall.html http://cineplex.media.baselineresear...94691_full.jpghttp://www.cineplex.com/Movie/life-stinks/Photos |

I came across this slide the other day on ebay.(I love it because SHANE is one of Alan Ladd's best movies)

The theater had 1,270 seats. http://imageshack.us/a/img594/8235/nezi.jpg old file of mine I realize we've briefly seen the Beverly Theater before on NLA. (I believe these images are new) __ |

rcarlton's previous post has a couple of extra pictures of the Beverly Theater, including one of the exterior of the Fiorucci store: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...postcount=8364 |
This seems crazy to me:

If memory serves, we saw Lawrence Of Arabia and The Bible there, when I was larval.
Sometime after it was Fiorucci's, I think, it became a branch of the Israel Discount Bank. (An odd name, I always thought, since virtually any commercial bank is a bank of discount, as opposed to a bank of issue which is almost always the central bank of a country. Quote:

Race/LA & CityRace
I have not seen Race/LA mentioned on this forum thread before; do any of you guys know about it?
Race/LA started in 2004 and I have participated in one of these. From the website: http://www.racela.com/about_rla.html In Race/LA, teams of two make their way to locations around the L.A. area - some famous and some little-known - performing challenges and solving clues that lead to their next destinations, all while racing against other teams in a heated competition to reach the finish line first! Inspired by TV's The Amazing Race, and now in its ninth year, Race/LA takes you on a round-the-world adventure right here in Los Angeles. In each race, players make their way to many cultural, historical, natural and entertainment-related attractions, from hidden Hollywood secrets to spectacular architectural treasures, and from tranquil parks and gardens to frenetic urban shopping areas. Spend an unforgettable day on a uniquely awesome journey that will have you discovering new places, solving challenging clues, meeting new people and having an amazing day of fun that you'll never forget! Race/LA is done a couple times a year and it takes around six-hours more or less. I know that most of you I’ve seen post on this thread would love it if you could participate. They also have CityRace which are shorter (about three-hour) events that concentrate on specific neighborhoods. What kind of neighborhoods? Here’s some of the upcoming CityRace’s: Olvera Street, El Pueblo and Beyond CityRace Disneyland Secrets of Old Pasadena LA Metro Art Adventure Downtown L.A.: Center of the City of Angels Santa Monica: From Pacific Park to the Promenade Long Beach Oceanside Adventure Culver City: In the Shadow of the Stars West Hollywood: Santa Monica Blvd. and the Sunset Strip The Great Chinatown Hunt Secrets of Little Tokyo I decided to mention it today because of this announcement: Race/La/news City of Los Angeles asks Race/LA to create new "Best of Broadway" CityRace Race/LA has partnered with L.A. City Councilmember José Huizar's Bringing Back Broadway initiative to create a new CityRace Urban Adventure Hunt in Downtown LA. Bringing Back Broadway is an ambitious 10-year plan led by Councilmember Huizar to revitalize the Historic Broadway corridor in downtown L.A. Goals are to provide economic development and business assistance; re-activate Broadway’s historic vacant theaters, as well as more than one million square feet of vacant commercial space and increase parking and transit options, including bringing the beloved streetcar back to downtown Los Angeles. Bringing Back Broadway's half-way mark will be celebrated Saturday January 25, 2014 with "A Day On Broadway," featuring special events and activities, highlighted by our all-new CityRace: The Best of Broadway at 1:00 p.m., which will be created especially for this occasion. In addition to the race, A Day On Broadway will include walking tours, discussons and historical presentations, showcasing the revitalization of the Historic Broadway Theatre District. In CityRace: The Best of Broadway, participants will set out on a clue-solving adventure exploring the district's historic structures and landmark theatres, along with some of the street's newest shops, galleries and restaurants. Hope this is of interest to those who frequent this thread. Perhaps we could inspire them to do a Noirish L.A. Race! I don't think they've done one at night before! |

I suspect she met with someone at Farmer's Market to connect her with Dr. "Scott" for an illegal abortion. Back-alley abortions are dangerous. Maybe something went wrong. She certainly was attractive. Of course Hollywood is loaded with attractive women. This is a noir sad story. The discarded purse? Might have been left at Griffith Park as a false lead, especially since it was found at the entrance. |
Found this remarkable house while driving the Google-mobile around Boyle Heights:
http://i1312.photobucket.com/albums/...psc8fe647b.jpgGSV 706 S. Chicago Street Rare to find homes built of brick in LA. It's then hard to say if the arches on the porch and balcony are a nod to the more eastern Richardsonian Romanesque style, or the more western Mission Revival, which was emerging around the time this house was built (Zillow & all the other real estate sites say 1906). Either way, they're constructed of arroyo stones which, to me, give it a more distinctly Californian feel. |
