Here's another snapshot from that same eBay seller.

The studios changed names so often I can't keep up. Does anyone know where this tv station was located?

Oddly enough, the last time the Argus Hotel was listed in the L.A. city directory was 1931!

I also noticed something surprising.

If you look closely, there is a cocktail sign beneath the overhang.

I wasn't aware that Scrivner's had a liquor license!

Is this a mini-cocktail lounge or did Scrivner's serve drinks to the customers in their cars?

Did all the drive-ins serve cocktails back then?

Cocktails are mentioned on this 1956 advert. It seems that the cocktail section of the Western & Imperial site was the Hangar Room, while the one on Sunset & Cahuenga was the Top Deck.

I think this must be what-is-now The Prospect Studios at Prospect and Talmadge. The original entrance buildings, seen below in 1928, appear to have been nearly covered in 1957.

They're visible again now, but behind a wall.

There is still one State where you can get Drive-In liquor drinks in your car....Wyoming. At least when I was there 9 years ago.

What is Chicken Enuff?

Art Laboe began his radio career at this Scrivner's in 1949. He is still on the air ~ 70 years later on KDAY 93.5.

Hey, that's the old three-story Hulda Block! It was once connected to the Angelus Hotel, which stood on the corner
where the eBay photo shows a parking lot. We can see where the passage from the Angelus connected to the Hulda
on the third floor, near the rear, where the non-matching window is.

You can make out an ER and CO from a ghost sign. Could be THE SOUTHERN CAL. WINE CO. who leased the ground floor of the building when it was built in 1896.

Don't think I could take the entire film but this short trailer [1:50 min,] has a lot of energy and a few scenes of Los Angeles....circa 1962, link above.

One of his promoters is played by his father....who also produced most or all of his five films.

In later life Jr. became an airline pilot. His father was a WW II airman.

Today, Arch Hall Jr.[b. 1943] makes the rounds of cult movie conventions.

Thanks for pointing out where the 3rd floor passageway was attached to the Hulda Building, FW. [see below]

Your earlier post mentioned Frank Court (the 20 ft. wide space between the Angelus Hotel (missing in the 1957 photo) and the Hulda Block.

I had forgotten the definition of 'court' so I googled and found this.

Alley:....A narrow service street for serving rear lots, less than 30 feet in width.

Court:....A rectangular pocket off a public way; a dead-end street.

Place:....A short street.

I am pretty sure the eBay seller has this eBay photograph mislabeled.

"Eagle Rock, PA"

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/Pu5gqJ.jpg
eBay

I tried to find evidence of a Carl Wynn in Eagle Rock, California. . .but there was no mention of his name in any of the old issues of the Eagle Rock Sentinel

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/NQRUIs.jpg

Is that streetlight, directly below the Carl Wynn sign, decorated for the celebration? It looks like a ... ummm... an...octopus

A palm tree in Pennsylvania!

The "PA" stands for Pasadena; Carl Wynn ran a furniture and second hand store at 30 E. Union at the beginning of the last century. A parking garage there now.

ethereal_reality Dec 17, 2019 3:35 PM

Here's another 1957 photograph from that same group of photographs. (they're being sold separately)

Seller's description:...Vintage Photo 3x5 - Los Angeles 24th Street Scene Barclay Hotel 1957

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/LFWepC.jpg

We're actually looking west down 4th St. from S. Main St....As you can see, that's the Barclay Hotel on the right. Note how large the hill looks in the distance.

I could be mistaken, *squits eyes*...but I'm pretty sure that's Judy Holliday crossing the street....

Surprisingly, the 'street scene' has stayed the same.

Impressive.

only kidding about Judy Holliday. ;)

I just came across this advertising postcard on eBay.

I've never heard of this game show before. . .or for that matter, I've never heard of the Hollywood emcee, Red Rowe.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/uiseVU.jpg
eBay.

I imagine this game show is similar to the very successful A Queen For A Day.

Here's the back.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...921/Xn7pjc.jpg

It appears that Clarence is trying to guess the dollar amount of a Rambler.

for search purposes:..FARE FOR LADIES, Red Rowe from HOLLYWOOD. 1957

Thanks for the information Lorendoc.

Perhaps the photograph shows the Eagle Rock float in the Rose Parade?...That would explain the writing.

Eagle Rock was particularly proud of their Rose Bowl floats.
You can check out the Eagle Rock floats HERE. I've been trying to match one of them with the float in photograph.

Here's 30 Union St. (site of Carl Wynn's store)

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...921/nJ3OGN.jpg

If this layout is correct, the photographer captured the Eagle Rock float turning north on Raymond Ave.

I realize it's a bit of a stretch.
