Google has promised some work to the CTA portion. But of course that needs to be designed, funded, and built through separate channels.

Even a deep clean and a coat of paint, doing the deferred maintenance etc will go a long way.

And removing those old Ohare flight information TVs lol

Nope. We're at the mercy of Google's voluntary corporate benevolence.

Doesn't the lower level at least integrate with the pedway? Is it possible that link effectively goes away?

Chicago Magazine: The Thompson Center Is Dead. Long Live the Loop Googleplex.
The latest reveal from Google raises as many questions as it offers answers about preservation, public access, and the building’s place in Chicago’s architectural heritage.

Excellent write-up from AJ LaTrace, former Curbed Chicago editor who played a significant role in advocating for the preservation of JRTC.

Nice to see AJ still writing about Chicago's built environ. I feel like these types of articles are sorely missed these days.

Great to see this moving forward. Feb 2026 will come quickly.

Hoping once this commences it will catalyze more development in this area of the Loop.

Not if its going to get new skin. IIRC new glass is need for energy efficiency and it looks like the new glass will have a silver tint. Also the cladding are all being replaced again with new color scheme.

At some point it was reported to be gifted to the Art Institute. I wonder what happened to that idea...

Can it even be moved outside the boundaries of the inner loop L?

Count me as one of the people happy to see this art piece go - This one does not speak to me lol....

Super excited to see the next steps unfold in this project.

Agreed. One of the laziest pieces of art I think I've ever encountered. It's amazing they are taking so much attention to removing it. Put it somewhere out of general sight.

Still, kudos to Johnny on the spot Solarwind. Awesome snaps.

Woah! That's pretty exciting to see. I guess we're gonna see the skeleton of this thing at some point as they strip the cladding. That will be pretty interesting.

BrickellBased Apr 23, 2024 12:31 AM

I am assuming they are gonna strip it down to the beams like they did the for part of the Tribune Tower renovation.
