Regina | Pubs and Restaurants
With all the activity in and around downtown, I thought it would be a good idea to start a new thread for more detailed updates, photos, menus etc. from all the new establishments proposed for downtown. Here is an initial list.

I wonder if 20Ten will have a "patio" in the lobby of Tower III? Would add a little bit more activity to the building.

Anyone know if Fat Badger will have a patio? |

Can someone please correct the typo on our city's name in this thread's title, please? It's not Regnia!
|
It sounds like 20Ten is ready to go but they are waiting on their liquor licence. Love the Twin Towers glass sculpture.

20TEN has had a soft opening. Their menu is now posted. http://20ten.ca/
Yes they will have an indoor patio in the lobby. |
The windows of the Famosa location are now papered over, so maybe construction is starting.

Regina is definitely miles ahead of Winnipeg with the brewpub industry. It's slowly starting to happen here, but there are a lot of city and provincial regulations that were a hindrance. Something along the lines of Bushwakker would make ridiculous amounts of $$ here. |
Flip Pub
The brew pub that is being opened in the Debra Dee location is going to be fantastic. They are still waiting on architectural drawings, and it is delaying the process a bit. Still hoping for a christmas opening. Super high ceilings and a round, central bar will look amazing in that space. The interior will be done by a designer, but the concept will be dark wood, simple and elegant.

PCL has their construction signs up in the Famosa space in Tower 2.
Had lunch at 20TEN in Tower 3. It was good. It has a very small bar and will not compete with all the new pubs. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BvFTzk4IYAAYpJm.jpg:large |
CJ Katz says in the LP that the Chopped Leaf on Scarth will be open in a week or so.

Fat Badger
The Fat Badger is also open, haven't been but looking forward to having a pint there. Rumour has it they have a pool table!
https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...5c20d83014186d In other news, I checked out Twenty10 and had a decent experience, would go back. We were chatting to the waitress about their other restaurant, Monterey Bistro. It has been sold to the lady who owned Table 10 and apparently that new owner is re-opening Table 10 in the Monterey Bistro location. |
Last night (Thursday) there was a nice vibe downtown centred around Hamilton and Vic. With Victoria's, Flip, Crave, Atlantis and the beautiful weather, there were people and action everywhere.
It was also salsa dancing night on the Plaza which is always great to hear and see. Chopped Leaf appears to be having a soft opening today. |
I'm disappointed with Table 10's new location. I loved going there but I go to the east end almost never (occasionally to visit friends or family, but I do my best to avoid Quance.) I'll probably visit there from time to time and I'm sure they'll do ok in that location, but I'll miss having them in Cathedral. It was such a great fit for that neighbourhood. It's too bad they couldn't find a location there that would work for them.
The Chopped Leaf Facebook page has a few pictures of the interior. Looks pretty good! |
I see they have done quite a bit of work on that Bar/ lounge/ club on the 2100 hundred Blk. Albert St.( on the east side of the street ). This was announced a few months back, and then we hadn't heard of any updates since. They have put a whole new face on the exterior of the building, don't know about the interior. I think it's doing to look alright!

Regina Restaurants
I'm always looking for new places to try. Any interesting suggestions? What are your favourites? Restaurants/coffee shops/lounges...I'm particularly interested in relative unknowns or hole-in-the-wall type places, but I'll try anything. One place I try to go to now and then is Daisy's Pantry on 15th Ave (between Toronto and Montreal.) Everything is homemade down to the noodles in their soup.
|
One of my favourites is Teppanyaki on Victoria Ave. It's a Japanese steak house where you sit down (on chairs, not floor) and the chef makes everything in front of you on a flat grill. Great atmosphere and fantastic food.
|
Try the Creek Bistro on 13th Ave., small 40 seat Bistro with great food!!

A couple of hole in the walls that get my approval are Sparky's and Orange Izakaya. Sparky's makes a really solid pizza that's almost as good as Houston or Tumblers and costs way less ($20 for an extra large). Orange is a little place next to the 13th Ave Safeway that makes really authentic Japanese dishes in a cool, modern bar atmosphere. They also have a cappuccino machine if you just want to have a mocha latte and sit on their cozy deck.
|
Somebody drove a car into the front of 20Ten today. Apparently lost control backing out of the alley and did a 180. Wow.

For the best Indian food in the city, and meets the hole in the wall criteria, try Caraway Grill. Best to make reservations or else you won't get in!

What are some cool pubs/bars you'd suggest I check out while in Regina? Preferably downtown, new or old :)
|
Victoria's Tavern is a nice new one. I like it. Food service was slow when I was there though. On the plus side they have chicken and waffles on the menu for lunch.
The other place to go, is Bushwakker's. A Regina institution and a place to have locally brewed beer you won't find in other cities. I like Beer Brothers too, but it's not like something you can't get in other large cities, although their pulled pork poutine is awesome. If its nice out, get it to go from the take out place as it is much cheaper and you can go eat in the park in the sun. |
Construction has commenced at the loggies building. Its going to be called the capitol.

What is the best pizza place(s) in Regina? I have always heard Regina has some of the best pizza.

The Copper Kettle downtown is a bit unique and is my favorite pizza place in the city. The Cathedral Freehouse also has some good pizza. |
:haha: I'm not gonna lie, but cold-cut pizza sounds disgusting, but also intriguing. Never even heard of it. Is it cold when you eat it?

The Malt City space is ideal for a resto-pub, but they have a ton of renos to do. Work is well underway on the Capitol in the former Loggies space. That is also a beautiful historic building but the space is much smaller and less conspicuous.

There is a new and wonderful place on the east side of town, it is called: I Love Sushi, located just north of the Husky House.
There is another new Chinese restaurant near there as well, on the North Service Road: the old Bonanza. Pretty good stuff too! |
