What Wrigleyville needs more than anything is wider sidewalks....

^The design has become a little less interesting since that rendering, but still overall way better than the Taco Bell. Also, the climbing gym is mainly on the second and third floors; the first floor has other retail (no named tenants as far as I know). So maybe you will get your fast food chains after all.
|
Yeah but will it have a drive thru? If no drive thru how can we call Chicago a world class A+ alpha Master race of cities city?
|
That climbing gym doesn't look like its tall enough to have anything worth climbing inside.
|
Any progress on the annex? Last I saw, they torn down that captain restaurant.

And just a side note, my friends and I were remarking how the exact location where we were having a lovely, fancy pants brunch was a suburban McDonald's parking lot across from a donut shack and a car wash just a few years back. Nobody misses that shit. Nobody. |
^^^ I thought for sure you would have been having a conversation about how the neighborhood has gone to shit....

^ and that's how it should be.
force the retail establishment to fit the built environment; not force the built environment to fit the (horribly misguided) retail establishment. |

And some legitemate affordable services like fast food and discount stores never hurts the urbanity of a city IMHO. :runaway: |
^^^ Amenities are why people live in cities, we generally have a retail vacancy problem, better a Taco Bell than nothing. Other, more interesting, non chain businesses will find another area to locate if they run out of space here because Taco Bell took it...

Thanks for those shots.
It has been such a treat to watch the neighborhood transform over the past couple of years. Friends and I went to brunch at Dutch and Doc's a couple of weeks back and we just kept remarking how we were having fancy brunch in a beautiful gastropub with a cool af vibe and a postcard view of the marquee in what was a dreary suburban McDonald's parking lot for far too many years. I get off the L at night now and think about going west for a quick beer instead of just beating it straight home. |
