A mistake made in the early stages of the Carey project is having an effect on the progress and look of the proposal (from the Ithacating @ Cornell Heights blog):

Update on the Six Mile Creek apartments (from Ithacating blog):

This proposal kinds of surprises me. An article from the Ithaca Journal ref: a new student housing building in a prime location downtown:

http://www.ithacajournal.com/story/n...site/26266005/

The site is the block noted by the yellow triangle in this picture:

:D

Of course there is the reality of the town/gown split. An article on the same project in the post above, from the Ithaca Voice:

Major student apartment project proposed for downtown IthacaThe Ithaca Voice

However, if you click on the Facebook link at the bottom of the article and read some of the Townies' comments, definately some venom there. :(

Ithacating blog has a ton of update info:

Suburban Lansing looks for a small zoning change to allow new developments:

Some initial renderings of the proposal for the Trebloc site mentioned in post #83. It's a biggie for downtown Ithaca. From the Ithaca Voice:

Of course the Facebook comments are not favorable to say the least.

Ithacating blog update. Looks like another downtown biggie is still on the map (Harold's Square). Glad to see some affordable senior housing in the pipeline too:

Since downtown has a lot going on right now, I guess it's time for Collegetown to get started on some of its projects. From the Cornell Daily Sun (though I think they meant to say 5 floors of residential instead of four):

Tompkins Financial Building

Could be a busy summer/fall downtown (now, if Hotel Ithaca and Harold's Square would pick it up)...Compliments of the Ithaca Voice.

^ good add icat.

There's a bit more info (with links) in this Ithacating blog entry, plus more on other projects:

Demo has started on the Novarr-Mackesey property on Dryden. I thought Kraft's Dryden South was going to start first, but there's a pile of rubble at the Linden corner.

Whoa, I haven't seen anything indicating that Novarr was starting their project. Great info scoop icat. Thanks!!!

I don't think the Novarr plan is underway. There's no construction loan on file with the county records office, and there's no plan that's been approved by the city. The demo must have been for other reasons. It could be because of a major building issue that Novarr didn't think worth resolving, given his short-term plans.

^ Thanks for the info Vis.

Here's an article from the Ithaca Voice about the Belle Sherman area homes being sold out. Ithaca needs some 4,000 housing units in the metro area, so it's not surprising that this development in the city was so successful. The big problem is housing affordability. I'll post another article about that. First, Belle Sherman:

Dang, I was all excited about sitting in Starbucks having a flat white and watching the summer construction.

You can watch the Dryden South project though! The old Kraftee's building will come down in June, excavation and foundation work will be in July and August, and steel should start rising for the new building by the start of the fall semester.

Not a major project, but some folks in town are excited about it (from the Ithaca Times):

Hopes are high (by many residents, but not all) for a new affordable housing development on Ithaca's Northside. Article from the Ithaca Voice:
