Sorry if I was confusing. This cold is making me stupid. I actually couldn't remember how to turn bread into toast this morning, until I thought about it for a minute. |
This is also from that same 1920 book. (the streets are named :))

It's so great that the Demille Barn has survived. If I remember correctly, it's now over by the Hollywood Bowl.
I am sure we covered it's relocation in the early pages of NLA....but I haven't found the posts yet. __ |
This is by far the earliest photograph I've seen of this movie actress.
Does anyone recognize her? ;) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...911/JfNh94.jpg "Who's Who in Hollywood" copyright 1920 __ |

Yep, you are correct t2. It's ZaSu Pitts, the "girl with the ginger snap name".
Here's how she is described in 1920. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640...910/3IJnpb.jpg Quote:
http://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?i...view=1up;seq=5 The actual title is "Who's Who on the Screen" (instead of "Who's Who in Hollywood") |
Since I don't know downtown Pasadena all that well I'll label this....
'mystery' intersection, Pasadena. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...910/slSV2G.jpg eBay The first thing I noticed was the flashy gold T-Bird in front of that divey looking place that resembles something out of a film noir. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...905/m7Kfxr.jpg detail below: I've tried to read the name of the place, but just can't make it out. xtra-close up http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...907/U5iGiJ.jpg :previous: That red VW van is also pretty snazzy. -note the Table Tennis Center up a flight of stairs next door. (that's a bit noirishy as well ;)) __ |
Mack Sennet Studios
Wow, thanks e_r for the link:
There's a good image of the Mack Sennett Studios in there somewhere. A nice, if minor, addenda to your outstanding post on the studio on the triangle of land at Effie, Bates and Fountain. I love how the Hathitrust image shows the lay of the land. ___ |

:previous: Thanks Hoss, you work fast! ;) That Vandervort Building is an absolute stunner.
t2, you beat me to it. I was going to post the Mack Sennett photographs next. (from Who's Who on the Screen, 1920) _ |
Here is a larger view that shows both sides of the photograph.
Like you said t2, I love how it shows the lay of the land. If you look closely, there are nice-sized houses behind that row of trees on the left. -and i'm intrigued by the white "tower" to the left of Mr. Sennett's oval photograph. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...907/oYgIun.jpg "Who's Who on the Screen", copyright 1920 at http://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?i...view=1up;seq=5 I'm talking about this "tower" (at first I thought it was on the far side of that road, but now I'm not so sure) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...905/NLp1pL.jpg detail __ |

:previous: I don't believe this is the same location t2. The above aerial is of the old Mabel Normand Film Company. Confusingly, it has been renamed the Mack Sennett Studios for marketing purposes. It was built by Mack Sennett for his paramour and star Ms. Normand, thus the connection. _ |
t2
OK, I finally found a clear explanation. (apparently others have been confused, like the Mayor of Los Angeles in 2013) http://www.lamag.com/citythinkblog/c...nnett-studios/ __ |
