Ya we're moving at light speed now with second doses. I want to get to 70% of the total population to not give any of the provincial government's ideas about further lockdowns.

We might as well start tracking daily cases of the common cold at this point, this is so futile.

But sure, let’s keep a tally of Covid cases among vaccinated people who….ya know…..kinda aren’t dying. Let’s just do that forever while we’re at it :haha:

disregarding the under 12's (who can't yet receive the vaccine), 99.9% of the people in the developed world who get hospitalized by or die from covid from here on out will be those who refuse to go get a vaccination.

i'm simply not capable of caring about those people.

So what? Are they seeing an outbreak in deaths among fully vaccinated? If not, doesn't matter.

Canada, overall, has done a good job with Covid. But that doesn't mean that some of their rules aren't nonsensical.

Fair enough, but it’s one thing for the medical community to track cases for that reason.

But it’s a whole different thing to then have the scumsucking national media blare case counts out to the public on a daily basis, continually freaking out the more feeble minded members of our society.

You better not complain
You better get the Pfizer

Covid Man is coming to town

(Common everyone, sing along!)

He's making a cough,
Fever and chills twice,
He's gonna find out who's vaccinated or not
Covid Man is coming to town

He sees you when you're breathing
And he knows when you're afraid
He knows if you've been pro-science or not
So be good for herd immunity sake
Covid Man is coming to town

You better get the shot!
You better not complain
You better not speak ill of Fauci, I'm telling you why
'Cause Covid man is coming to town
Oh let's go!

I try to care but I honestly have a tough time doing so. I justify caring as remembering that large portions of America can be considered not fully developed and the following lack of education that follows but still use some common sense and get vaccinated - everything is inundated with the benefits of getting vaccinated. In the end I feel as you do.

I’m glad most things are back to normal but I sure do miss not having any traffic anywhere. During rona it took about 7 min to get downtown, now it takes at least 30 anytime during the day. And people seem to be driving crazier than ever.

I don't try.

I am cheering on the delta variant.

What humanity as a whole needs is to suppress this virus to sporadic status rather than endemic status--so-called "herd immunity" is another way of looking at the same thing. Given the level of "vaccine hesitancy" in the US, it now seems like the only way to do this is to boost "natural" post-infection immunity as much as possible and to accomplish that I WANT those who refuse vaccination to get covid as soon as possible. If they do, I wish them a mild case, but I want them to get it and for that reason I was cheered by the 4th of July crowds and hope for more of the same.

Theres still a few places in Pittsburgh for no reason other than doctor offices that still require wearing a mask and unfortunately its at my favorite to go sushi place in Oakland. I couldn't go in today because I threw away all my masks a few weeks ago, so their loss.

It's not over but the response to it has radically changed because people couldn't keep distancing any longer (and that seems true in most of the developed world). We have moved on to the Swedish model and maybe it'll work with large segments of the population protected by the vaccines.

The seafood/fish used for sushi and served in San Francisco is caught and put on ice and then transported in just like it would be in Pittsburgh.

I don't see how case counts really matter anymore, as it doesn't appear that any country has reached a level of universal vaccination that would keep R values below 1 in a fully reopened scenario.

What I'm more interested in now is checking that the unvaccinated aren't occupying enough hospital bed to put the responsible members of the population at risk if they get in a car crash, have a heart attack, etc.

Case counts are rising again (albeit from a low base) meaning the R value must be above 1. Of course, that doesn't mean that the Missouri outbreak could actually happen in Vermont or what have you - just that overall COVID is rising rather than falling.

Exactly, I'm saying the only time I would be interesting in tracking case counts anymore is if some country got to like 90% vaccination and we could actually see if they could sustain an R value of below 1. Otherwise, we pretty much just need to accept that case counts are going to rise until it burns through the unvaccinated population (and potentially vaccinated population but we won't really know since they probably won't feel that sick or get tested).

homebucket Jul 7, 2021 3:44 PM

The vast majority of the current cases are in those that are unvaccinated.

In other words, get vaccinated! It actually works!

"In a fully reopened scenario" being the key operative there. We're keeping the R value below 1 because we can't sit inside a restaurant at even 10% capacity. Some countries on that map probably have very questionable data, and some have let Covid burn through massive amounts of the population already.

I'm not sure what Canada is "beating" the US in any more. An infection that largely isn't killing very many people any more? I just hope that a vaccine is approved for under 12s before we see a widespread red state outbreak. Otherwise a lot of blue state school districts might flip out and make elementary school remote again in the fall.

Last I heard the Pfizer vaccine is on track to be approved for kids ages 5-11 as early as September. Younger children may take a bit longer. But the FDA approval process is a slow as molasses under normal conditions, and even though they are expediting things, it will take time to figure out the proper dosage.

Trials are underway in children as young as 6 months old. Early results should be available this month and full results in September, but vaccinations probably won't take place until early 2022. Hopefully the timeline gets moved up though because that is a long time for the delta variant, and inevitable future ones to spread.

You can always contact your local academic medical centers to see if they are participating in the trials and see if you can enroll your children in the study.

Also important to note they may receive placebo but you'll find out six months later. If the subject received placebo they will have the chance to receive the actual vaccine after that 6 month period.
