Since the end of January of this year, roughly 2,500 deaths in USA from corona virus. About a 1.5% death rate of those exhibiting symptoms. Dr. Fauci stated that possibly 100,000 to 200,000 Americans could die from this. I didn't read anywhere - in what time frame. Six months? One year? Time will tell.:(

I don't think that it's currently possible to compare deaths from COVID-19 to the regular flu since nobody has any idea for sure when things will peak and when they will go down. You would really only be able to compare it to the flu after 1 year of COVID vs. 1 year of the flu to see the difference and make comparisons. I'm sure a lot depends on how effective social distancing and lockdowns are at slowing the spread. Again, nobody can know that until after the fact since this is all completely new ground.

The first death from COVID in the US was reported on Feb. 29 in Washington state. Today, 30 days later we have approximately 2500 dead. So that many in 30 days, not 60 which would have been the end of January.

Here are some links to just data if you want numbers by date, including a breakdown of positive, negative, hospitalized, tests completed, deaths, etc. for each state and the US as a whole:

https://covidtracking.com/

An example of the data from that site today (4PM EST) for the 'Coronavirus numbers by state' spreadsheet starting from March 4 at the bottom and today's number at the top:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...UeOj5/pubhtml#

It's hard to say how current or accurate this data really is since each state reports differently and some are testing more than others. If anything, the numbers are almost certainly higher, but we really won't know until things slow down and reporting can catch up.

Feel free to draw whatever conclusions you care to from this data.

ALSO: I would request for the mods to create a new thread for this discussion since, while it is important to discuss, it is equally important to have someplace to go to get away from it as well. This thread should be one of those places to get away to.

Richtempe....new thread was made earlier today. :)

I got pissed off and put my foot down once I read the first bullshit post and pretty much ignored the rest of the discussion because I did not want to argue with crazy and everyone ignored me as well.

I have cabin fever after three weeks of shelter in place that wasn't much different from unemployment so I am emotionally attached to this. I am strictly following SiP, leaving to go the grocery store across the street that is half stocked and that's it as I also have autoimmune issues that make me at risk.

I encourage anyone to use the report post feature as I'm probably just going to be skimming these discussions instead of rigorously policing them in lieu of actual development news.

Deck Park Vista RFP

Hey CrestedSaguaro aka Ronnie!

It looks like the RFP window for Deck Park Vista proposals closed on March 6 and 3 developers submitted proposals. Doesn't look like a recommendation has been made yet but think you can put in a records requests to see the 3 proposals? We need some development news to talk about!

I'll put one in. It's been very slow (understandably) to get requests.

Several FAA height permits submitted today varying from 257' to 285' for "Hubbard" (for architect Hubbard Street Group). Coordinates indicate this is the Garfield House lot.

What is Garfield house?

Looks like the 1001 building has finally gotten its gorgeous colorful siding. I'll have to take a walk over there and get some photographs.

South Convention Center Building - Future Expansion Concepts

Needed mental break from work and came across the following proposed future expansion concepts for South Convention Center building should the city decide to move forward and build new and expand current site. From what I can gather, the City Council will make a decision this Fall.

Scheme 1- new CC building, 19-story hotel, and 10-story commercial tower
Scheme 2- new CC building, 16-story hotel, and 22-story residential tower

Personally, I love the idea of splitting up the mega block and adding a pedestrian corridor along 4th St in Scheme 1. Scheme 2 however does have higher heights and a residential tower instead of commercial. Enjoy!

They seem almost the same... i obviously want taller buildings, but this is pretty much the concept I was hoping for. The other suggestion I had that didn't take hold was to have two hotels, one marriot and one Hilton. That works well in alot of places as it gives equal access to the facility and most business travelers have a preference and can choose. So my dream would be I guess three towers with two being hotel. Or better yet, two of the towers being a combination of residential and hotel like the Kimpton.

I wish they would completely eliminate the south convention center and split it into 4 blocks like Hines proposed but I realize the city wants to keep the convention space available

That's essentially what they are doing. They're blowing up the current center, while creating ground floor retail, a pass through and two new towers with new space added as well above the first floor. I think this is a win-win.

Are you talking 4 blocks with roads? Wouldn't really make sense because on three sides there are no roads to connect to. It would just become a drop-off trap for ride shares. I think the pedestrian entrances make more sense like proposed.

I mean flatten the whole thing, add roads and redevelop it as part of the natural street grid.
