good we need to keep some jenky neighborhood stuff

^ Normally I'd agree, but its such a nondescript building. We've seen much better buildings get demolished in the name of progress in this neighborhood.

The one that still bothers me was the demolition of the old Sports Corner a few years back. Replaced with an ugly replica-ish building, with no added density.

I'm at least glad the replica is a touch better than most new construction they put up as far as detail and street presence. True though it really has no density other than a big open bar for two floors and then a partially enclosed third floor.

That sports store on the corner of Addison and Clark is going to look even more plain, cinder blocked and worthless once everything else is complete on the opposing corners. I hate that building.

Anyone know the reason why they switched the nuveen logo at wrigley but not on top of 333 lake? I personally prefer the old one.

My guess is Wrigley first because it was quicker, easier, cheaper, frequently on national TV. And if they hadn't done it before the season, they would have had to wait until after the season.

They will get around to changing the sign at the top of the 480+ building

Wrigleyville was always one of the best environs around a major league park in the US, considering how many stadiums are isolated and windswept, surrounded by a sea of parking lots, garages and/or expressways.

But once this construction boom is done, Wrigley is really going to be in a league (pun intended) of its own.

^Agreed. Not a surface lot or expressway to be found. Even yankee stadium and Fenway can't compete!

Great shot...Anyone know what is going on with the lot just north of the hotel? It was a rental car office, but they are rehabbing the building; minor development, but curious what's up.

Cubs announce 3 new Wrigley clubs for '19

The largest of the new hospitality areas is the Catalina Club, to be in the upper level behind home plate and named for the team's old spring training home on Catalina Island off the California coast.

The newly designed 4,800-square-foot space, which includes the current Jim Beam patio above the stadium marquee and a concession area beneath the press box, will be reserved for about 400 ticket holders in the upper-deck box seats. The area will feature retractable glass walls for climate control and indoor and outdoor patio areas.

Down the first-base line just beyond the visitors dugout will be the Maker's Mark Barrel Room, a nod to the team's recently signed sponsorship extension with Chicago-based Beam Suntory. The 250-person, 3,100-square-foot underground area, which will have a view of the visitors' batting tunnel, is touted as "Wrigley Field's original speakeasy," with various cocktails and "liquor lockers" for ticket holders to store private stashes.

Beneath the 100-level seating along the third-base line will be the W Club, where 250 ticket holders will have a view into the Cubs' batting tunnel and team memorabilia. The team describes that new 3,000-square-foot space as celebrating the tradition of Wrigley Field and advertises it as having more TV screens to watch the game from inside.

Vennum said when the upper-level space is renovated, the Cubs will add new concessions and patios on the right-field and left-field sides, plus enhanced restrooms.
Specific areas within the ballpark will be associated with each club.
"If you have a season ticket in the seats directly behind home plate at the 400 level, those seats would be associated exclusively with the Catalina Club," Vennum said. "It's not an incremental membership that anyone can purchase. It's only these seats that are exclusively associated with each of these spaces, and that's true of all four clubs."

Other premier client upgrades set for the next couple of years at the stadium are a new VIP entrance near the Wrigley Field marquee gate with an elevator up to the Catalina Club and renovated suites, some of which will be done in time for the 2018 season.

So they are making even the common public areas off-limits where the riff-raff upper-decker patrons go to spread their arms and get some food under the sun for an inning.

Pretty soon you will be strictly confined to your seats, pisser, and your aisle unless you want to pay a nice surcharge.

But I don't disagree with you. I don't consider creating a bunch of exclusive lounges very sustainable. Corporate or wealthy ticket holders can be some of the worst bandwagon fans. Your scout troops, churches, families with kids that stick to the cheap seats will always be your most loyal fans even when the team is doing terrible. My coworker is a season ticket holder and gave me a ticket and I sat in a busted seat part of the game before I moved down to a lower level and that seat was partially broken. Cubs need to get the basics done before the fancy stuff.
