The Brentwood Motor Co sold British imports at 2610 Wilshire in Santa Monica. Those cars in your pic are a '57 Pontiac and '57 Chevrolet--they look pretty new to me.

Brentwood Motors gets a mention here in a noirish story here concerning another dealer, the famous Casa de Cadillac...

In 1943 Borkel, who was then a private in the US Army, was arrested after a 2 1/2 mile chase in a stolen car. He was wearing a colonel's uniform at the time. The newspapers reported that Borkel had a long history of convictions for burglary, auto theft and forgery. He died in 1965 at the age of 41 and is interred at Forest Lawn Glendale.

Interesting. Somehow one doesn't picture a lifelong thief/fraudster/felon who was in & out of prison before dying at age 41, resting beneath the manicured lawns of Forest Lawn. Wonder what he was doing those last 15 years after getting busted at Casa De Cadillac?

When I first moved to L.A. I remember going to a Kosher place for their Broasted Chicken. I was so young and naive I didn't even know what kosher meant.

Well, they snagged a nice graphic from the meat product company. The San Gabriel sandwich is salami and Swiss.

looks to me like the background could be a studio backlot. Fox, MGM, Paramount, RKO maybe. that's my best guess. i would guess MGM or RKO if i had to 'cause i grew up in Culver City

I'm inclined to agree, at least from the standpoint that I can't think of any railroad construction in Los Angeles or suburbs that looks anything like what's in that photo.

the street is wide with what could be a trolly or train down the middle so could be Culver blvd or Santa Monica Blvd

My neighbor, who knows I'm interested in this stuff, was going through some old boxes and gave me this old L.A. map. Looking on eBay, I found other Hill's L.A. maps but didn't see any this old. Pretty fascinating.

Really cool map! I didn't know Sunset Blvd west of UCLA was called Beverly Blvd in 1926. I'm going to ask my neighbors to go through some of their old boxes too. ;)
