Finally. OAK>SFO for myself.
I'd Love to see the cheaper extensions like this around the system. Kinda like ebart except to run to a couple specific places. Well, if that's not too tacky!

Charlotte has received approval to enter project development for phase 2 of CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar. In addition to the streetcar line, the city's second light rail line (Blue line extension) is also currently under construction.

Project development isn't construction, but I'll add the Blue Line the next time I update the front page.

Phase one of the street car line is under way, and tracks are being laid in the roads, but phase 2 has now entered development phase. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.

Denver's North Metro line broke ground today:

Cirrus Apr 28, 2014 10:55 PM

Added to the front page:
  • Charlotte light rail Blue line extension
  • Charlotte streetcar phase 1
  • Denver commuter rail North line
  • Washington metrorail Silver Line phase 2
I expect quite a few more additions and subtractions as the 2014 construction season chugs along.

Orlando SunRail Phase I is now operational as of Thursday.

Orlando SunRail Phase II - 30 miles (5 stations) - pre-construction (construction expected to begin in late Q4 2014)

Cirrus May 5, 2014 3:16 PM

Moved Orlando's Sunrail commuter rail off the list, since it officially opened for service.

I'll add phase 2 when it actually begins construction.

Cirrus May 5, 2014 3:20 PM

Moved Houston North LRT to the completed section.

Thanks for making and maintaining this list, Cirrus.

You can remove everything from SLC as frontrunner south opened in 2012 and the airport and draper lines opened last year

Cirrus Jun 10, 2014 1:14 AM

OK thanks. Moved all the SLC stuff into the completed section.

Also added the Kansas City streetcar to the construction list, as it broke ground in May.

Will have to do another update soon. There will be a bunch of openings this summer. Next one is probably the Minneapolis / Saint Paul central light rail, which should be this month. DC Silver Line and Tucson streetcar probably in late July.

I hate to make this correction, but the initial segment of SMART opening in 2016 is (only) 38 miles. The rest of the system lacks funding and is not yet under construction.

SMART + eBART (10 miles) = 48 miles.

Again, thank you for maintaining this list.

The Minneapolis - St Paul central corridor Green Line is running as of today.

^Awesome, hope to see photos soon!

Cirrus Jun 15, 2014 2:15 AM

Minneapolis moved to complete, and 32 miles reduced from the SMART/eBART line.

LA Purple line

Should LA's Purple line extension be included?

"This another step forward for the 3.9-mile Purple Line Extension project and puts the subway addition closer to construction. Utility relocations and some other prep work have are already underway..."

I don't think so but the Regional Connector probably could:

Yup, Regional Connector is officially under construction. So Los Angeles' under construction projects are currently:

Expo Line Phase 2: 6.6 miles
Gold Line Foothill Extension (Phase 2A): 11 miles
Crenshaw Line/LAX Connector: 8.5 miles
Downtown Regional Connector: 1.9 miles

for a total of 28 miles of (light) rail currently under construction.

For the Purple Line/Westside Subway they've only dug the exploratory shaft so far so I don't think we can call it officially under construction yet. It will be pretty cool when they finally do start though. From what I understand, there's never been a time in Los Angeles' history when 5 rail projects were under construction simultaneously before.

If "Providence Wickford extension" is referring to the new Wickford Junction station on the MBTA Providence Line, it opened 2 years ago and can be removed from the list.
