Anyone got any information about the fires downtown? Apparently two houses burned around 3rd Ave south of I-10...

Speaking of which, the old commercial building at 532 W Adams St next to the Windsor burned earlier in the month due to arson. It has one of the most interesting storefronts in town IMO, looks like the shell survived but otherwise it was entirely gutted.

Interesting news clip on the history and future of Chase tower. Wonder what role Jerry Colangelo will play in all this.

The 40-story tower is now empty, according to Christine Mackay, Phoenix's community and economic development director.

Fencing surrounds the building because the interior is being demolished, she said. The new owner is a New York-based property management company whose principal is the son of the billionaire owner of the NHL's Florida Panthers. The property is being redeveloped by Phoenix-based JDM Partners. The "J" is for Jerry Colangelo, the former owner of the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks who's played a significant role in downtown's destiny.

The stadiums built for Colangelo's teams helped spur a new wave of entertainment-related downtown development in the '90s and 2000s.
And of course, the obligatory renderings from Davis. Not sure if these are indeed the real renderings for whatever will become of Chase Tower...but there's certainly a lot of smoke lately.

Yeah, the latitude/longitude listed puts it at Chase Field.

Based on the frequencies listed there - gotta wonder if this is some sort of Cell tower/first responder comm install.

Or are those commonly listed anyhow?

I'm wondering if its something to do with repairing the roof, apparently they can't close and open the roof with people inside anymore because it is dangerously in need of repair

Suntec posted a some pics of Moon Tower which shows some pretty good views of downtown. The pics are super high def and massive. I think Link 2 looks awful from this angle.

New Industrial Fueling Station Being Built in Downtown Phoenix

Maricopa County dropped a bomb on local neighbors’ days before construction is set to start on a new Maricopa County industrial fueling station being placed near the future light rail, in a neighborhood zoned for high density.
Not only is this location horrible for many logical safety reasons, but it is right in the path of the Homeless encampments, where there continue to be 2-5 massive tent fires every week. This is literally a ticking time bomb for downtown Phoenix. What is Maricopa County Thinking!!??

Probably gives the county an excuse to get rid of the homeless camp

Downtown Phoenix Seeks Artists To Paint Giant Mural For Super Bowl 2023

Another reminder of the epic failure by the City of Phoenix in not choosing the Hines proposal for the Regency Garage RFP. Instead of possibly showcasing an amazing tower near completion by the time the Super Bowl 2023 came around, out of town visitors and the rest of the world will see....a mural, hiding a closed and empty restaurant (previously Steve's Grill).

You would think the city would have some foresight to at least put up a temporary spot for the week long events heading into the SB. That's a prime location right on Adams St that could feed people and sell alcohol.

:yuck:

I think it was the city taking too long but also Covid at the same time. I think this project will see life after the Super Bowl which sucks but it will help with future Superbowls in the valley if the city gets the project right. The Super Bowl is also a great opportunity to showcase downtown Phoenix to future developers too so I hope this gamble pays off for the city..

I never realized how ugly as sin that DTPHX logo is while we're at it.

Logos should be able to scale appropriately and it's news to me it looks like that messy garbage when scaled up.

It scales just like the others. It's only blurry because someone didn't use the vector file.
