It's how I've seen it in gay bars in larger cities. Urinals available for those with male genitals, stalls for those with female (or for #2) and with a shared sink area. Choose whichever option you need based on either your genitals or the situation at hand. :shrug:

I've been watching the progress from my office that overlooks it and its amazing how intense this project is. But it also seems to be going painfully slow (which I'm sure is the norm nowadays).

An update on the current progress of the Prince Edward Building. (Sept. 29th/2023)

The Globe Theatre Revitalization is progressing into a new phase of the construction work. Major structural upgrades to the building are nearly complete after demolition revealed significant degradation of nearly every structural element in the building. Stairs, walls, beams, and floors were, in many cases, supported by little more that paint, grout, and the hopes of previous generations.

The dramatic mainstage volume, now extending from the main floor trap room up through the original roof four stories above, has taken shape. The true “in-the-round” theatre form has been revealed as the three floors of scaffolding below the now complete and state-of-the-art catwalk system has been removed. The seating bowl form can be clearly seen, and trades are now installing mechanical and electrical distribution systems as steel stud framing is installed. The roof, itself a significant project, is complete, and the massive air handling system serving the theatre is in place.

The service elevator has been installed in the back-of-house space and will be used to move material up and down in the building during construction. Basement mechanical and electrical rooms are full of equipment and steel stud framing is ongoing throughout the building.
The challenges have not ended with the (near) conclusion of the structural patching. Water was found to be seeping into the main passenger elevator pits. Testing has revealed that it is not storm or potable water, indicating that a leak from a city or adjacent building sewer line is the likely culprit. Investigation and mitigation is underway. The Scarth Street entrance discussions have been ongoing with the City of Regina, and your team has advocated for the inclusion of this necessity for the Globe and amenity for the City’s public realm.

Schedule has been a challenge for the Construction Management (CM) team as the building condition continues to prevent momentum on the project. Difficult decisions made to mitigate costs months or years ago have resulted in delays due to the unpredictable nature of the building state. The available budget has been eroded as million of dollars in additional structural components have been added to ensure the long-term viability of the building. As a result, restoration of the exterior masonry and copper awaits additional federal funding.

The importance of the Globe Theatre as a cultural hub and heritage landmark in the heart of the city drives your team to make the project a success.

I'm glad they're fixing up this place but I can't help feel that they are massively overbuilding and overspending on what is a niche need in Regina. It's all private money so I really don't care in that regard but I just think this whole rebuild doesn't match the end result. Anyway, it looks nice and downtown does need stuff like this if there's any hope at all of it not staying as a desolate shithole. I guess I'm just a pessimist overall about downtown.

O wow why I never noticed this before what a hidden gem

This reno project has ballooned to $45 million. That's for a building that will maybe be worth $10-15 million when they are all done. This helps one understand why the beautiful 1906 City Hall was demolished in the 1960's.

its more then what its worth realestate wise this is a investment in community and culture if u use ur argument then we shouldnt build community centers and ice plexis community pools ect.

what happend to wpgs city hall was a series of decisions that went back to the 40's when the issue first showed up witch affected several buildings in that area not just city halll in 47 and counce went on record saying we cant spent money on our selfs its to expebsuve same blutty argument being used right now in the openig portage and main discusion sigh

I agree. It really is a niche business and to spend that much money renovating it seems somewhat insane.

Having performed at the Globe during a musical run, it along with the Cornwall Centre and Casino Regina are the only larger tourist attractions downtown. Our cast alone (not counting the staff of the Globe or patrons before and after the show) went out to restaurants and bars almost every afternoon and night supporting downtown businesses. It is integral to the downtown whether you support the funding or not for it to be there.

Yes, the costs have gone up though it’s not a surprise at all with the current climate of materials and work labour costs.

Once it is back up and running - producing shows, its theatre programs and rentable spaces - the downtown restaurants and hotels specifically will benefit. It is a positive for Regina and also the fact that the heritage facade was kept and fixed up is a great aspect.

Can’t wait to see it finished :).

ur a capital region city its a province wide asset not just a civic these kinda spaces give u something that a liveability improvement of culture and is something to be around for generastions
