I really like the new hotel's design, but hate the fact they are demolishing the Day School. I'll echo the previous comments on why can't they keep and integrate the existing buildings on the site with the tower behind? There's no scarcity of land here.

Yeah that tower is pretty much a disaster from beginning to end.

Yeah, I love hanging out in the lobby of the older hotel building, but I can't say that condo tower is anything special.

It's really amazing to me how many people actually believe that land that has no structures on it is just for the taking as if nobody owns it. You do realize that these tracts of land are usually owned by private entity, right? Your assessment of being able to "easily" take a piece of land is full of ignorance. Just because they have land without a building on it doesn't mean theyre going to automatically sell to the first person who expresses interest in buying. The same business rules apply to them on when to sell as anything else.

Geez dude, the vacant land I'm referring to is part of the same parcel as the old school building. As you can see if you bothered to look at this before calling someone 'full of ignorance', they're already building on the empty land just to the south of it.

Probably...Right now GSW's either go to Stroger or Christ in Oak Lawn from the south side. Giving them another location basically right between can only help.

I have heard, on a podcast or something, that one of the reasons our murder rate is lower than in 80's and 90's has mostly to do with the abilities and equipment that paramedics have with them when they respond. I think the topic was specifically about cutting funds for fire paramedics, so they did not get into the role the hospitals play. Probably a large one as well.

So basically, maybe.

For a top notch center like U of C to have L1Trauma only makes sense.

Not only does the University benefit from applying evidence based approaches to real life cases in high volume, but of course it gives the community access to the best and the brightest. It's a win win, and I really hope it saves lives.
