Did the intersection of Third and Fairfax ever host electrified public transport? While no tracks are particularly evident, the overhead electric lines suggest something . . . along those lines.

Anyone have an appetite for some cheesecake?...
http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...psb2oeq2zq.jpg Pin-up model Rosalind Roberts....not identified as Los Angeles but I think that could be the Hollywood Fwy. http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...psxiq1teyx.jpg Grace Lee Whitney, an actress...undated but I would guess about 1960...again, location not specified but I would be surprised if this is not L.A. http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...psxtrwojfx.jpg Kim Novak, 1956....this is certainly in the city, the spinner rack has some Hollywood postcards. http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1oswrxaf.jpg Lana Turner, 1940...I think this could be the Sunset Plaza shops... http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...pshsukm5a0.png |

So while one City agency was making us jump through hoops doing stupid things to ensure a historically-accurate street view, another was doing its level best to destroy it. And that's not the only time that sort of thing happened. We here in Pasadena are plagued with petty, sociopathic bureaucrats who get their thrills throwing their weight about. And it's only gotten worse since then. |

Definitely L.A. in all the 50's/60 shots - look at that omnipresent hazy smog. |
:previous: These cheesecake photos are really interesting...especially the top two (well..especially #1 of Rosalind Roberts).
I mean, she's just standing there in a dirt lot holding books. I can't put into words why I find it so intriguing. It's like a good looking car-wreck. #1 http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...psb2oeq2zq.jpg In 1959-60 Ms. Roberts was living at 6446 Lexington Ave. in Apt. #39. You could call her at HO 9-6965. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/FubVsY.jpg They recently yanked out all of the trees. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/XjJeNn.jpg GSV The apartment building was built in 1957. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/INxIu9.jpg lacity ABOVE: Notice that it says 'courtyard'. The pool was put in a few months after the building was completed. TODAY / WITH POOL https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/OUo7UI.jpg google_earth A good looking car wreck.. What was I thinking? |

Another slice of cheesecake. Here's Marilyn wearing gloves (beaver?) and boots (also beaver?) https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/924/0ic9Gx.jpg Starting bid: $200 (link coming) The description (I'm being lazy) https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...923/xMJP5c.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...921/hUlGp3.jpg I believe it sold...but here's a LINK to their other MM collectables. |
This is also kinda' cool.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...921/CNd886.jpg https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item...marilyn-monroe Bank check, 8.25 x 3.25, filled out entirely in Monroe's hand, "To Bank of America, Sunset and Laurel Branch, Los Angeles 46, Calif.," and beautifully signed by Monroe, "Marilyn Monroe," payable to Frank Christon for $35, August 24, 1953. In fine condition. Monroe starred in three movies released in 1953—Niagara, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and How to Marry a Millionaire—emerging as one of Hollywood's major sex symbols. An incredibly desirable handwritten check from Hollywood's legendary 'blonde bombshell,' dating to her rise to fame as one of cinema's biggest stars. STARTING BID $500.00 It's probably from her time in Canada while filming Niagara. (one of my favorites!) _ |
'mystery' motorcycle club, 1970s. [Glendale]
Look at all those tail lights! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/0QZa3O.jpg tumblr I thought it would be interesting (and fun :)) to try and figure out what motorcycle club these gentlemen belonged to. They might be parked in front of their club (or favorite bar?) If you look closely, you can see that they're all wearing German helmets with the spike on top. There's a distinct possibility that this is a gay motorcycle club. Note that there are numbers along the whole length of the yellow curb. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...921/sShXC5.jpg detail |
The closeup seems to say P.D. LOADING ZONE
I don't see numbers but maybe its a time limit? |
