Gimme a Break!

Is the taller one primarily residential? Office buildings tend to be taller than residential ones with the same number of floors?

Soooooooooo close to breaking that 100 floor mark.:irked:

Another supertall proposal?

Is now waiting for the latest photoshopped skyline.

caltrane74 Jan 5, 2013 1:08 AM

I tried and failed miserably.

Waiting for a pro to take over.

Fatality Jan 5, 2013 3:22 AM

Good times for Toronto :D

Might I also point out that the tallest of the proposals isnt a simple circular tower but more like a Reuleaux triangle shape. It is a small detail and a preliminary drawing but wow am I impressed. Toronto may be finally breaking out of that substandard phase of its.... Or am I saying that too soon? :P

The city has also had a good track record of not having cancellations for these major projects that appear in a plentiful fashion.

And most of those high profile projects that do get cancelled just end up getting built by someone else with a different design. Which has been the consistency taking place since the turn of the century.

Spocket Jan 5, 2013 3:32 AM

Um... all this is great but where is the little information we have coming from ?

I mean , who is proposing this , what's the timeline , what kind of buildings are these , etc. ?

All I see are a couple drawings and nothing else. Kind of tough to take this seriously when that's all there is to go on.

Developer: Pinnacle International
Architect: Hariri Pontarini

tallest 4 towers are residential, shorter 2 are office.

apparently these images were leaked before the developer wanted them to be released, so somebody is about to get fired. (that is probably also why we know so little about it)

Toronto diagram: http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?cityID=12
Despite being over 700 feet tall, they are on the second page...

Fatality Jan 11, 2013 10:17 PM

^ Wow I was sure those two would have made it on to the first page. Just goes to show how far these proposals are pushing Toronto.

koops65 Feb 11, 2013 8:21 PM

I made a diagram of the office tower: http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=56267
Toronto diagram: http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?cityID=12 on page 3.

It puts things into perspective when one realizes that only 6 of the top 25 in that Toronto diagram currently exist.

cruzin4u Mar 8, 2013 1:18 AM

According to UrbanToronto, the plans have changed.

1 Yonge will consist of 6 buildings (not 5 buildings) with the tallest at 88 stories (no longer 98 stories).

The Toronto Star building would see additional floors added, while a new 40 storey office building would be built on site. A new 70 storey tower with hotel component has been added as the 6th building.

The remainder of the towers heights are as follows: 75, 80, 80, and 88 storeys.

So we have 88s, 2x80s, 75s, 70s and 40s.

Some new renderings of the base courtesy of UT and Architect Hariri Pontarini.

I don't like the way they seem to want to add on to the Toronto Star building. the Toronto star building should be restored without the office addition, maybe add 5 floors to the other office building to compensate. Similarly, I don't like how there are 6 buildings here, there shouldn't really be more than 4. Again, take the density off of those 2 now eliminated towers and add it to the others. I'd actually PREFER height, even this close to the midrise bayfront area.

caltrane74 Mar 8, 2013 2:44 PM

Sad about the downgraded height, good news about the additional towers.

US Economy and Canadian Economy appear to be headed into overdrive.... I see another condo boom on the horizon.

The economies may be improving, but they are very far from going into overdrive.... you will see a significant increase in the rate of inflation when that happens.

Agree, they need to leave that building alone. It pulls the whole area together and the only building with any degree of solidity to it.
