CALGARY | Oliver (East Bldg) | 398 FT | 35 FLOORS
A development Permit has recently been submitted for this one. The DP is just for one building which sits on the east side of the property. The rumor is that Connoco Phillips will be moving into this development.
Architect: Gibbs Gage Place 10: 524 10th Ave SW, 612,000 Square Feet for both buildings http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3827/9...7f819e14_b.jpg Place 10 by Calgary Renders, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3687/9...8d4e1bde_b.jpg Place 10 by Calgary Renders, on Flickr http://www.centrongroup.com/place-10 |
Hooray! Well it is the beginnings of a small canyon along 10th, "Centre 10" as well as "6th and tenth" and "Place 10" all close together!
10 story buildings are hardly a "Canyon" along 10th!
Much better than the parking lots we have now!
Typical Gibbs-Gage architecture, but it's nice to see this kind of development extending to the Beltline. As that area gets busier and busier, someone will need figure out how to deal with the CP tracks better so the two halves of downtown can feel more unified.
I like this one - sorry tallbob ;) It's basic, but is a nice little filler in the Beltline and will help bridge that gap from DT to Beltline.
We may some action on this one soon...I have heard that they are close to starting on at least one of the towers.
I'd prefer something a bit taller. There seems to be a little too much "filler" going up lately. Parking lots are rapidly disappearing, I just hope these short filler buildings aren't being short cited regarding Calgary's potential growth. Office space already has low vacancy rates (especially for newer buildings).

^^ Chinook Arch: I'd think twice about that! Afraid it doesn't work like that. ^^
I am good with this one going in, as it seems like developers tend to shy away from the rail-line. I would like to see more projects fill up both sides of this rail corridor, as there are way to many vacant lots here.

This is seriously underway now? Wow! Talk about coming out of nowhere!
Personally I'm delighted to see this go ahead. Those parking lots along the tracks are a blight that needs to be dealt with. And for a Gibbs Gage design, this looks pretty good. I particularly like the street level treatment. While it won't do much for the skyline, at street level this one is a winner IMO. |
^ Either it's underwater, or their just clearing the lot, so as to get some parking revenue. I'm really hoping this is going, or going soon. It's a very important project for the core.
I don't think it's underway yet, but I have heard that they will be going ahead on spec and that it is likely that both buildings will get built at the same time. Apparently this year.
Sounds like potentially good news.
Isn't Mawer one of the tenants? Where are they going to move till this gets built??
