Trail over rail? Federal funding for QueensWay linear park could threaten long-sought QueensLink rail project By Ben Brachfeld Posted on March 18, 2024 The federal government granted New York City $117 million to design and build part of a High Line-esque “linear park” on an abandoned rail spur in Queens — but some advocates and elected officials worry the plan would forever foreclose the long-sought possibility of reactivating transit service along the corridor. more: https://www.amny.com/transit/federal...-rail-project/ https://www.amny.com/wp-content/uplo...0/P1090970.jpg The long-disused Rockaway Beach Branch rail spur. Absolute imbeciles. I thought I could count on the Feds having the competence to see this is an obvious vital transit corridor not some opportunity for a stupid f***ing park.
This needs to get killed in the crib now before any real money is wasted on this. |
as i recall the mayor is hell bent on it becoming a park.
|
The article states the work if done would be for the section that crosses Forest Park and the MTA claims it wouldn't preclude joint usage with transit. Yeah, we'll see. Best case scenario nothing happens and the next mayor favors rail.

At this point I sincerely hope he's not re-elected. I know he was handed a bad hand but I'm totally unimpressed by his ability to run the city.
|
Mind numbing decision making. One of the city's biggest transit deserts with perfect ROW ready to be integrated.
Also forget the stupidity of ruining transit opportunities, this is just not the High Line. The High Line works because it is an urban tourist attraction. This cuts through residential neighborhoods, I really can't even see it being that big of a success. |
Yeah the comparison to the High Line is complete apples and oranges that only a person that doesn't understand design or nuance would make. "Hey that's a shiny new viaduct park, now we want one!" is the basics of it. Never mind the High Line was a industrial freight rail road through what is now a hip trendy neighborhood not a previous purpose built passenger rail corridor with astonishingly obvious transit connectivity benefits.

welp leave it to the usa to cheap out on a major rail transit revival opportunity in the hand and fall back to a park.

Have always been curious as to what specifically all those station conduits are feeding and why oh why they can't be more combined to lesson the amount that are running everywhere. Nexis, if you know please do tell. That above photo is absurd.

Self-driving cars get greenlight from Mayor Adams for test run on NYC streets By Ben Brachfeld Posted on March 28, 2024 Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday released new guidelines that will allow testing of self-driving cars on New York City’s streets. The city’s Department of Transportation (DOT) unveiled a new set of safety guidelines and an application portal, allowing for the first time a wide swath of companies to test their self-driving car (also known as autonomous vehicles, or AVs) technology on the complex and chaotic roads of the five boroughs. https://www.amny.com/transit/self-dr...yor-adams-nyc/ |
