Wolf Point's developers are planning to launch construction of a 66-story apartment tower in early 2017, the second of three planned towers on the riverside site near the Merchandise Mart, in early 2017.

Wolf Point East will be a 750-foot-tall tower with 707 luxury apartments, according to the AFL-CIO Building Investment Trust, an investor in the first two phases of the development. The tower will be 66 stories.

Crain's first reported in April that the tower's developers, a venture led by Hines Interests and Joseph P. Kennedy Enterprises planned to break ground on the second tower in the first quarter of 2017. At the time, specific details of the project were not disclosed...

Views from this new tower are just going to be jaw dropping. I'm surprised they aren't at least throwing a little bit of condo in there.

And unlike Jarta, people who would buy condos here won't lose their views later down the road.

the rendering released is quite small, but it seems like there are some steps in the facade and setbacks at the top that will keep it from being a straight-up box.

from what i can tell from that tiny image, i think i like it better than either of the two preliminary iterations released in the past. we'll see. we need a normal sized rendering.

It seems to be a series of rectangular planes sandwiched together, which is not all that dissimilar to the west tower, but only with lighter glass and being 260' taller.

It looks like Wolf Point West really set the tone for this project as hoped – I see a combination of bKL's influence with the art deco setbacks of the revised Pelli designs.

at 750', wouldn't this also be the tallest 100% rental building in chicago?

i know we have some taller mixed-use condo/rental buildings, but i can't think of any taller all rental towers in the city.

Wolf Point East doesn't look to bad. Definitely taking queues from WPW and maybe 150 N Riverside.

I really hope they change things up a bit for the south tower and design something that respects it's prominent location. I don't want to see a big fat rectangle at a harsh right angle to the main stem of the river.

Didn't someone justcomment a few weeks ago how sick 150 would have been if residential was incorporated. Well.... here you go. WPE definetly has similar qualities. What a view it will have.

The new orientation of WPE will also provide a perfect visual cap to Orleans Street when looking south. The visual impact is going to be very significant.

Depends on if this or the Vinoly (1200 S. Indiana) starts/finishes first.

Visual caps really add a certain attractive and, in my opinion, awesome enclosure to view corridors. They enhance the cityscape.

Absolutely. And once there is a plausible proposal for the Post Office, we could have magnificent bookends for the main branch of the River.

It's also about the fact that the tower is less dense and 100' shorter.

I think that at least in this case the bar is being raised by bkl. if WPW were by SCB there's no way we'd being seeing such a good revision of WPE.

I think a lot of this is driven by the tightness of the site and view corridors required for the sister towers. Unfortunately that dynamic doesn't come into play so much on an ordinary block.

Sad about the height chop too, but its narrow E-W profile will still make for a good aesthetic. I'm just now seeing its resemblance to 111 W Wacker, though when comparing the two, 111 will appear rather juvenile. Well done, Pelli.

I know we're all height freaks here but I think 675' might actually fit into the area better since there are so many neighboring building in the ~750' range. A little variation is better than a plateau. At least the tallest still looks to be 950+

Hey mods, as stated earlier, bid drawings are out for WPE, and elevation is 663'-6".

It's a beauty of a tower and is so reminiscent of 150 N Riverside. I love that they're in the same vicinity.

Great to hear WPE is on track for groundbreaking in a couple months....really looking forward to this one!

Arranging debt construction financing for downtown apartment projects has certainly gotten much more challenging than it was 2-3 years ago, but there are certainly at least a handful of developers that are going to be able to pull it off still this year.....

Really hope it starts in May. I'm finally starting to get impressed with all the cranes in the sky. Time to keep this momentum going.
