It wouldn't make sense to have it be steel because if the rest of the tower is painted concrete and the top is just painted white steel or some type of paneling that could cause problems if they age differently |
I just saw the building today, it’s definitely the cube

After all that... the cube is real! Well, maybe...

Looks all topped out to me...

I'm in the hoping for cube but not sold camp. The model/rendering crown looks nubby without. The cube crown at least adds some intention to the equation.

Give me the cube or give me death!

It isn't a supertall, but it sure as hell feels like one when approaching from the South on LSD or the Dan Ryan.
|
Regarding the Cube: I'm going to interject with a couple unfortunate facts, as much as I want the Cube.. Renderings and model show the tallest tube extending five levels. Currently, we've reached the roof of the fifth level (3 standard floors and one double-height floor, which is what appears to be the Cube). The only thing going for us Cube-wise is it doesn't make sense to have not done the horizontal 4th floor beams in concrete. Steel would look weird at this point.

There's going to be a water damper on top of this right? What if this two story cube is designed to hold a cube full of water and they still end up erecting a steel cube on top of this cube???
Cubeception! |

It also feels like a supertall when coming from the west from the Stevenson. NEMA already dominates as the Southern anchor of downtown Chicago.I never thought it would turn out this impressive.

Can we get Nick to drop a cube on top from his helicopter?

Would make for a sweet lantern tho...
|
Can people get the fuck over it already?
