Good eye KevinW, I believe you're correct. I didn't even notice the "maehome" structure in this photograph.
(I was referring to a different pic in BRR's post)

I don't know if I am right but the dark blotches on the beaches look like tar. I remember in the early fifties Santa Monica beach had a lot of tar washing up on the beach. It was gooey stuff.

I always associate Playa Del Ray with Anissa Jones who played Buffy Davis on Family Affair. Here are some links.

Just out of curiosity, on the previous page, what in the heck are all those people at the West Port Beach Club looking at?!? They seem to be fixated on something going on outside the frame...:???:

As best I can tell, it is "a pool show." (Before TV and computer generated graphics, folks were content to stare at pools. :koko: If you were thinking "Goat Gland Extravaganza", that was rarely advertised, Doctor supervised and performed by candle light on Catalina - or Monkey Island! :boogy: Photographer, Herman Schultheis, was evidently attracted to many things, architectural. ;) )

I have a question about Bob Brooks' Seven Seas. What is this "Rain on the Roof" mentioned in it's advertising?

Was it mostly a 'sound' thing...like rain hitting a tin roof? ...or could you actually see the rain? (through faux windows)

I was hoping to locate a vintage exterior photograph, but most cameras at the time were aimed across the street to Grauman's Chinese Theater.

I recently spent several months going through some 50,000+ photos from the USC Digital Archives* and the Los Angeles Public Library.

Many of the photographs have a romantic quality to them.
I always felt this was a 'noir' city, especially in the winter when the warm Santa Ana winds swept through the basin.

I lived on Hancock between Santa Monica Blvd. and Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.
Amazingly, the small bungalow where I lived is still there.

Enough said:
Here are the photographs of Los Angeles.
I will continue posting them over the next several months.

Please feel free to ADD any old L.A. photos you might have.

John Wayne - owned a cottage on the Beach In Laguna Beach Cali- - it had a funicular
from the roadside upper house going down to the beachside cottage-
The elevator - was working the day I visited the location in 1974.
But I have not been able to find anymore about John Wayne's Laguna Beach residence ?
The set up was very similar to this one posted earlier ...(Santa Barbara)
