......................................... Does anyone else have feral parrots in their immediate area? LA curbed partly blames Busch Gardens for at least some of the 13 varieties which have taken root here. Our closest flock used to be at Rancho Park Rec Center on Pico, but since just before the holidays, a flock has moved to a big old sycamore on our block. Noisy, but not unwelcome, although in combination with the Santa Anas it's a little bit crazy-making. |

Interesting bio of Marie Doro at IMDB
"...In later life she became increasingly drawn to a more spiritual life, and ended as a recluse, actively avoiding friends and acquaintances. She was briefly married to actor Elliott Dexter, the marriage soon ending in divorce. She had no children and never remarried... Elliott Dexter (1915 - ?) (divorced)... In Charles Chaplin's autobiography, "My Autobiography", he states that she was his first love." |
and Elliott Dexter had two mental breakdowns.
the breakdowns (the first one included a stroke that left him with a limp) ended his acting career. (I'll have to look up the details) |

Here's a 2nd photograph from the same photo shoot....but with less plants & flowers. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/2aBPAx.jpg I prefer this one. she's much prettier here (in my humble opinion) _ |
I'm starting to think that the Dexter-Doros never moved in to the House at the End of the Road.
This is all we have to connect Elliot Dexter to the Jacobs-Bond house?: Quote:

A publicity stunt?

Dunno.
We need oldstuff. ETA: Hang about, in 1923 Jacobs-Bond turned the house into a duplex by adding a kitchen and bath: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/9k...Q=w673-h392-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Jt...X=w673-h406-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/GF...1=w679-h306-no ladbs So Dexter and Jacobs-Bond could have lived at the house at the same time, Dexter needing a home between marriages. I hadn't thought of that. (Jacobs-Bond had more work done in '38, adding stairs) |

However, the home in the 1917 article looks like it might be 2000 N. Gramercy Place (b. 1900), near the lower left corner in the first photo below: Quote:

:previous: It certainly looks like the right house FW.
I don't remember discussing Tyron Ridge. Is there a story behind the name? did Tyron Power own it? ;) (joke) |

The flag pole is difficult to see...so here's a closer look from the 1920s. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/aQqLuC.jpg Michael Patris Collection at mountlowe.org There isn't any information with this one....but their clothes make me think 1930s. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/IfUBkD.jpg forensicgenealogy I wonder which telescope is missing here? :previous: (it's some place between San Pedro and Venice) that doesn't narrow it down much does it. lol ;) any ideas? ______ |

I think I heard, but not saw, some a week or so ago. When I see them, they are usually flying and I am driving so I can't get a good look at them to see what kind they might be. The ones we have, I believe are green and medium sized, bigger than a crow but not as big as some of the Amazon species. I just read an article which said that out of the 372 species in the world, there are 11 kinds of naturalized parrots in Southern California. |
