There is next to no information for this postcard postmarked Los Angeles. (A clue might be the house on the left...N. Adams St. perhaps)

Without a name for the church or the pastor, this will be pretty much impossible to locate.

Good catch Krell. I would guess the chicks sold for 5 or 10 cents each. I see a lot of people in the line with boxes....to carry the chicks home.

The father of the family I lived with would go out to the rabbit cage, grab one, break its neck and that was dinner.

Kind of silly to have google black-out your house. Anyone can drive by and take a photo...so what's the point.

I just discovered a great bunch of photos of the Chateau Marmont and the Garden of Allah hotels on the Sunset Strip. Along with Jon Ponder at www.PlaygroundToTheStars.com, we've narrowed it down to most probably Summer 1957, just two years before they tore the Garden of Allah down.
You can find it and others taken at the same time on Dave DeCaro's blog

Xmas 2013 at the Pioneer Memorial

I took a trip to the Pioneer Memorial this past Christmas. It has always been one of my favorite places in the city. I think I remember the waterfall running when I was a kid back in the 60s, perhaps into the early 70s. Unfortunately, the climate, political and otherwise, has not been good to this historic site. These are a few photos I'd like to share:

This is an lapl image with the following info attached:

"Mrs. Henry T. Wright, left, and Miss Sarah W. Lyon, past presidents of the Daughters of 1812, are shown at the flagpole on historic Fort Moore, where the last annual Flag Day ceremony was celebrated today. They are holding clippings of The Evening Herald laid in the cornerstone in 1916, which are removed and will be put in the foundation at the new site of the flagpole on the hill. Photo dated June 14, 1941. "

from lapl (http://photos.lapl.org/carlweb/jsp/D...20Fort%20Moore)

I'm not sure, but I think I remember reading that Fourth of July parades used to end at the Fort Moore flagpole. I think it's too bad it is currently in such a state. I hope it can be saved.

Those poor poinsettias are planted on the Hope Street side of the Department of Water and Power on the bridge that goes over the Pond/Fountain that surrounds the building.

Such bittersweet photographs of the Fort Moore Memorial GatoVerde.
Sweet because it has survived, bitter because no one seems to care about any longer.

That could be the famous Brown Derby cocktail or some other citrus fruit based concoction:

INGREDIENTS IN THE BROWN DERBY COCKTAIL

1.5 oz Bourbon
1 oz Fresh grapefruit juice
.5 oz Honey syrup (1 part honey, 1 part water)
Garnish: Grapefruit wedge or twist
Glass: Cocktail

HOW TO MAKE THE BROWN DERBY COCKTAIL

Add all the ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake, and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge or twist.

The most famous item to come out of the Derby is the Cobb Salad invented by owner Bob Cobb in the 1930s era.

Another item they were famous for was their Grapefruit Cake with grapefruit flavored icing. Sounds like Heaven.
