Kind of silly to have google black-out your house. Anyone can drive by and take a photo...so what's the point.

I just discovered a great bunch of photos of the Chateau Marmont and the Garden of Allah hotels on the Sunset Strip. Along with Jon Ponder at www.PlaygroundToTheStars.com, we've narrowed it down to most probably Summer 1957, just two years before they tore the Garden of Allah down.

Xmas 2013 at the Pioneer Memorial
 

I took a trip to the Pioneer Memorial this past Christmas. It has always been one of my favorite places in the city. I think I remember the waterfall running when I was a kid back in the 60s, perhaps into the early 70s. Unfortunately, the climate, political and otherwise, has not been good to this historic site. I'm not sure, but I think I remember reading that Fourth of July parades used to end at the Fort Moore flagpole. I think it's too bad it is currently in such a state. I hope it can be saved.

Those poor poinsettias are planted on the Hope Street side of the Department of Water and Power on the bridge that goes over the Pond/Fountain that surrounds the building.

That could be the famous Brown Derby cocktail or some other citrus fruit based concoction:

INGREDIENTS IN THE BROWN DERBY COCKTAIL

1.5 oz Bourbon
1 oz Fresh grapefruit juice
.5 oz Honey syrup (1 part honey, 1 part water)
Garnish: Grapefruit wedge or twist
Glass: Cocktail

HOW TO MAKE THE BROWN DERBY COCKTAIL

Add all the ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake, and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge or twist.

The most famous item to come out of the Derby is the Cobb Salad invented by owner Bob Cobb in the 1930s era.

Another item they were famous for was their Grapefruit Cake with grapefruit flavored icing. Sounds like Heaven.
