April 20

Premade holes - putting in holes after the floor is poured is a lot of work.
Not sure what the boxes are for.

Green / Brown / METRA

Rise! Rise, I say! And cast yon shadows on NIMBY households!

Unless they keep that temporary construction bridge/driveway its gonna be a bitch to get equipment and materials to WPS. Barge it. I wonder what area they will use for staging and storage? It would be convienant if they could block off part of that street north of it like they are doing with upper wacker for Vista but I dont think thats gonna happen. I know its far in the future, just fun to think about.

Is the brick stair/elevator entrance that says "luxury rentals" being replaced by an entrance within either this or the south tower? Seems a big hit to street presence to have new glass towers with that dumpy little hut left there.

They are pouring the east half of the deck Solar shot and posted last night, this morning.
Shouldn't be long before we see the floor plates rise above the river.

that will be something to finally see. it seems like they've been in the ground forever on this one.

I actually think it went by pretty fast considering the time of year!

Time is an illusion...:koko:

:haha:

And seriously, rise. It feels like this has been stuck at this level forever.

The sooner this one rises, the sooner we can begin work on WPS. Keeping my fingers crossed that it begins construction this boom cycle.

Taken from Chicago & Orleans looking south, this view is going to be pretty sensational once WPE is completed (see the crane in the middle of the canyon?). It's then going to be absolutely jaw-dropping when SOUTH reaches its peak.

Doesn't look like it. If there's a public parking component in the garage (or parking for Apparel Center), it's nice to have a separate entrance for that so the unwashed masses aren't going through the residential lobby. I believe it is clad in stone, I can't imagine they would use an expensive material for something temporary.

The rendering shows an munged version of the current entrance - the diagram does not show any change from the current layout (vestibule with 2 elevators).

The temporary "bridge" is being dismantled - construction traffic will soon be routed through a "tunnel" passing through the base at grade level.

Kumdogmillionaire Apr 26, 2018 5:50 PM

Maybe it's just the rendering there overblasting artificial light, but it really does look like there will be some heavy white detailing on this one. I might stand corrected when I earlier said that it wouldn't be white and only blue, and gladly. Looks sleek

I love it when a tower boxes in a skyscraper canyon. Chicago's grid doesn't allow for this very often, but when it does it looks fantastic. WPE and Orleans will join Wabash+Trump and LaSalle+CBOT.

This is why 4 East Elm was such a missed opportunity. You can see it from Congress, but it's a meager 300-350 feet. I honestly don't think that small site could have supported a megatall, but whenever I think of how awesome that would have looked from literally anywhere on south State Street, it just feels like something was taken away from me.

The size of the site plus the neighborhood, nothing bigger than 400 feet was getting build there. While I too can dream about something much superior going there, I don't lose sleep over it.
