In publications of the future on urban history or New York history, say 50 years from now or more, photos like these will be featured as showing the last vestiges of the old West Side, before the new neighborhood of Hudson Yards and Empire Station was completely rebuilt. The way we see photos now of Park Avenue as Grand Central was rebuilt and the tracks were being buried beneath it, or Radio Row as it was being torn down to make way for the original World Trade Center complex.

Yeah, it's odd to see in this state. But at some point, all of the areas we came to know as the canyons of Manhattan looked a whole lot different. The west side has seen a lot of changes, but still much more to come.

I remember staying at the New Yorker Hotel back in 2009.
The view towards New Jersey was uninterrupted.
It's mindblowing how much this area has changed in the last 10 years.
